Why do many ships have weapon range longer than the sensors?

because there are scouts for a reason ^-^

They were given weapons that they can't use without a glorified shuttle around?

While that is odd for a game its not entirely unrealistic. Give a man a high powered rifle without a scope and his weapon range is greater than his sensors. :D

yep, and i think targeting computers might work similar if unsupported by nearby crafts. And of course its due to gameplay reasons

Fits for artillery to need support.

Another weapon question: Didn't you say that the Klingon weapons would have aesthetic variations to look more like the ones in the show?

i noticed an odd bug just yesterday playing against the ai, excel 2 with arty range or capture breen battleship with long range, have it fire on a station on the same range, move the ship just a bit further back and it makes the station fire range completely ineffective while i can still fire. i found it by complete accident.

i used to use 20 steamrunners with 3 scouts to increase range so it can attack other dangerous stations like phaser or turpedo turrets just out of range, that little added attraction. FO makes the scout useless for anything but a scanning ship for cloaked ships as other ships have comparable range and more stronger.

Ir's because of where weapon hardpoints are in relation to where the ship can be hit, stations tend to have weapons in the middle where ships have them on the outside.

The weapon has to be able to go from wherever the weapon is to the middle of the ship/station it's firing at.  Occasionally that makes large stations fire farther/shorter than they should.

I'm pretty sure it's from the weapon hardpoint to the edge of the model, but I may be wrong.
