Toughest AI?

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

:whistling: strategies and build orders like... double field yard kbeajq extensions? :whistling:

despite the already powerful Romulan AI, it seems we may be into a whole new level of Merciless Doom.

Merciless AI that spams all kinds of mines for all sorts of vessels, and its regular ships along with mighty warbirds.

And this time, I fear, there will be no stopping them.

I found the Romulan AI to be very manageable  :sweatdrop:

Merciless Romulan?

What sized map do you play on?

Who do you play as to beat them?

They rush to warbird maybe 10=20 min into the game, and not at the expense of turrets or other small vessels.

I agree they can be beat, but its nothing like a borg game or federation game where you can do just about anything against them and win.

I dont know whos harder romulan or klingons. I personally think a merc klingon is the harder of the two.

Romulans have better cloaks, and get to their warbirds faster.

The klingons only swarm you with field yard units, and it takes time for them to tech up to battle or large yard.

With romulans though, you are facing an equally difficult level of star yard units, and then its a mad rush from the first chlr or eresis, to a few norexans and dds, with tavara right afterwards.

But yes, Klingons and Roms both have the tougher aspects to them.

Dominion is significantly harder than both if you let them reach large yard and are not in position to deal with it. So long as you are able to deal with them while they are still at small yard level ships, they are in-between fed/borg difficulty, and kling/rom difficulty.

oops. sorry, i didn't mean to mess up the thread.

just thought the changes might make Rom AI even more challenging... not saying good or bad either way. just to comment.

It depends on the situation in a 1 on 1 i think the klingon merc is def the hardest because they can just spam spam spam outta there first yard. in an inviornment that is medium to large and takes longer i agree that the romulan/dominion are the hardest.

Romulan cause they just cloak before you blow anything up and after a while they just keep building up there fleet.
Dominion ovbiously because there large yard ships are very powerful and since the merc Ai gets the best of both they spam v13's, breen battles, and s7 defenders= bad news for whos on the recieving end.
But klingons are still worthy material at that point as well.

A problem I've seen is a certain race can be obscenely harder than another, even if they're at the same AI difficulty, almost always the Romulans for some reason.
Also, the AI tends to break sequence (Fed being able to build phaser platforms instead of blank platforms and upgrading them, Borg being able to build tons of ships from one Collective Link, and so on). Even if there's nothing wrong with the AI per se, it should be held to the same restrictions players have.

Dominion is by far the hardest if you let them go to long. The borg can also become very powerful but they are the easiest of the AIs to beat early game. Federation AI just sucks period. Romulans can also spam ships but like the borg they are very easy to beat early game since their starbases are weaker and their turrets suck balls. The klingons seem to get an early start and can take over a chunk of the map before everyone else but then for some reason they seem to wilt away. I am not sure what is going on but when I check their star yards they aren't making any ships for some reason even though they just made a large number of smaller ships right off the bat and they have moons being mined.

i believe those issues you mention are to do with the A.I being not able/clever enough to upgrade things. so it all has to be made in one go.

Romulan Merciless AI will spam Warbirds like crazy, including Tavaras that are Rank 5 out the yard. Feds will have a hard time against them at least initially as they'll have way more density in their fleets than you, and ships like E2 and Nova are seriously at risk because the AI loves to build Norexans (they get big damage bonuses against both those classes).
