Suggestion: Morale
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Just an idle thought I had while playing "Dragon Age: Origins" - what if each faction of "Fleet Operations" received an attack/defense bonus when they complete a certain condition, ie: achieving "high morale"?
For example:
* The Federation's morale increases as Starfleet ships explore the map.
* Romulan morale increases the longer Romulan ships/bases remain cloaked.
* Klingon morale increases, obviously, with every enemy ship destroyed.
* For the Borg... well, I'd say morale would increase as you assimilate ships, but that's really only a valid strategy for the Assimilate avatar...
* For the Dominion, perhaps morale increases the more technology you research?
It becomes balanced when you consider that in each case players would generally have to go out of their way to gain the morale bonus, but it'd grant them a considerable boost... This would also put pressure on enemy players to counter attempts at gaining morale (ie: increased use of tachyon pings, blockading Federation bases so their scouts can't leave, etc.)
So... yeah. Just a stray thought I'm putting out there...

Well first let me say that you've got a well thought-out idea! Nicely described!
I've played other games that had something similar to morale and I find that the biggest affect it has on gameplay is making those that are winning win faster and those that are losing lose faster. As you take losses, your other ships get weaker and weaker, while enemies get stronger and stronger.
I don't think that would go well in Fleetops where one of the only ways to come back from losses is through strategy and key tactics. Making it harder to come back after you've lose some ships already would ... well it would make me sad
.
Any idea on how it could be presented with that in mind?

You could just have some races get more exp from battle, with others getting exp partly from other means.
Research is more of a Federation specialty.
