Some things I noticed

Hi there,

I love this mod. You guys did a fantastic job and I can't wait to se what else you have in store. But I did notice a few hick-ups that I just want to be sure your aware of. And some suggestions

1. The pathfinding I have to say is pretty average. I have scouts getting stuck in asteroids and have to tell them to move to continue exploring.

Also, ships have (at times) an annoying habit of heading for their destination, but not before making a detour into a green nebula. Will you have the pathing fixed in the finished product?

2. I noticed in one of the other topics that you are trying to make the ships resemble something out of SFCIII, I am a big fan of detail and I think that the models from the original A2 game, while not great, were more detailed than what I've seen in the mod. Don't get me wrong, I like what I've seen, but I do think it could be better. You know, smother curves on the saucers, a little more hull detail, that sort of thing.

Now I'm not saying you should be emulating P81's Bridge commander models! Oh alright maybe a little, but try to give us some eye candy. Besides, the reviews of SFCIII said themselves that the models were not that great, and the textures were rather poor as well. But I will concede though that the Borg looked ok.

Oooh! I just had a thought. Maybe you could try including the glow effect from SFCIII into the mod. Now that would be cool.

3. I thought another thing that you might eventually want to include is some guidlines to making our own mods and models for the game.

I did some poking around and was able to create an akira that used your damage sprites. (She looks cool bye the way). So something to keep us interested after the initial wave of excitement fades.

4. One last question. Is there some particular reason you renamed the Concorde and Sentinal classes? For me, their current names (Monsoon & Canaveral respectivly) take away from the appeal of the ships.

Sorry if this is a lot to take in. But I hope some of this is beneficial is some way.

I want to same something to point 2, the others i leave to optec cause i am not the modeler
i am the one who said that we intended to recreate sfc 3 or something. i meant with that to give the game a sharper look and not to copy sfc 3. btw i also don't like their textures and some of the models, especially i don't like the intrepid. Hm, for the details, i also love details and i think that the ships optec made all have greate detail for what is acceptable for a strategy game, i haven't noticed that in original armada 2 the ships more detailed then in fleet operations. what are the things you noticed there?

1) The pathfinding is a big problem of armada2... in the original game, there where not as many asteroids and "walls" like in Fleet Operations and i'm working on the pathfinding. It will be much better in the next version

3) We hobe that Fleet Operations - as an multiplayer mod - will find some friends in online gaming and wont get lost after a few weeks.. perhaps there will be some model tutorials but i haven't planed such a thing

4) The concept für the monsoon and canaveral class has been made long before the model came. We decided to use this two models (also the monsoon is not exact the concord..) but didn't change their names. if you don't like this models for the name, perhaps i will make new and own models for them at time :-)

The Details I am refering to are that the texture details have more definition in A2 than what I could see in FleetOps. Yours are fine and look good, but more definition I guess is what I'm looking for.

Also for Optec, the same goes for the models, more definition. Thats the point I was trying to get across.

Glad to here about the pathfinding.

The Monsoon and Canaveral classes are very good ships, don't get me wrong I lke them very much. It's just that I first saw them as 3D MAX meshes and they used Concorde and Sentinal as their names. Thats why I associate the names with the models. But if these models are different in some ways, like the Concorde as you say, then maybe you could have them as variants or something and include the concorde & sentinal.

Anyway I'm not saying that you should change the ships or anything. I was just curious as to why these two ships had one pair of names and another two ships looking the same had a different pair of names. Thats all it was.

Ok, this would be easier if I new how to add a picture to the message, but here goes.

Take a look at the A2 and Fleet Ops Akira textures.

Look at the top of the saucer. Notice that the detail is more obvious on the A2 version? And see how that the Fleet Ops version detail is harder to see? that's the sort of detail I'm talking about.

yea, i have seen what are the differences, but i am not sure to change it
i think the ships look good the way they are now, too much constrast and the ships would look like in a comic (or even like in original armada 2). in my opinion the textures on original armada 2 ships are too stylized so they look a bit plain.

Fair enough.

However I see that you took P81's Sovereign and made it a more system friendly SOD. perhaps you could do the same for some of his other mods. I know I would love to see his Galaxy class in Armada.

I don't know. What do you think.

hm? as far as i know optec made the sovereign on his own. maybe you are wrong, i don't know
for the galaxy, i don't like the current model in fleetops
optec wants to add some modified models in the next version. i don't know which modifications that will be

Oh No. I am positive that Pneumonic81 made that sovereign. He was praised for making it.

For the idea, pass it on to Optec. At the very lest those models could provide inspiration.

i used the textures from sfc3 for the sovereign, that#s right, but the mesh is done by me. they look similar because they are booth sovereigns :-) perhaps i will made new textures

When I posted in SGN forum about the Mod so ppl would come here and download it, some of the replies said that you guys included no credits to the textures and models that were supposely done by P81. Someone replied that he is using P81's sovereign and 9 of 9's Steamrunner and that they are exactly the same to the ones in Fleet Ops. Therefore claiming that p81's texture was used without acrediting him and that 9 of 9's model/texture was also... I read twice the previous posts and I just want to make sure you guys know this. Also the fact about Activision Copyrights were brought up and the doubt that this Copyright was violated since Fleet Ops doesn't "amend" Armada 2 but pretty much makes a new game with the A2 essence and files in it.

DON'T GET MAD AT ME !!! These aren't my opinions and I didn't even thought 'bout copyrights I am just making sure ya guys know this and these are other ppls opinions!!!

I just don't want this cool Mod to be cancelled becuz of © problems with Activision...

There are no copyright problems with activision, i have read the license agreement of armada2 and especially the modding part.
Due fleetops was never thought to be released for public we just forgot to replace these two ships by our own. the sovereign model is not p81 sovereign but the textures are by him.
I will talk to both and give them correct credit.
