Resources/Moons in General
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Okay, so sorry if this is in the wrong section, but this is partly balancing, party idea, so here we go...
Basically im wondering about the current method of resources, we have tritanium and dilithium, but it seems like titanium plays a more secondary role, as shown in part by the fact that ost players have massive amount of extra tritanium reserves, or will mine one less tritanium moon then dilithium moon
So it seems like tritanium is less important, i mean dont you target dilithium when raiding? i guess what im saying is, maybe the resource system needs to be reevaluated, so that loosing miners on tritanium is just as big a deal as loosing dilithium miners.
Furthermore with this is mind, Id like to suggest, or perhaps maybe just discuss, what people would think about bringing back metal mining, or some other 3 type of resource collection as there was in Armada 2. Why was it taken away? I just think a 3rd resource could (possibly) make the game a little more interesting, add another layer of complexity. Maybe even just make it togabable to see if people like it.

I kinda agree. Though I wonder if you couldn't just switch the two? Making Tritanium, a metal used in things like ship hulls, the primary resource, and Dilithium, a crystal used for warp cores and other things, the secondary resource.
I am all for the addition of yet another resource, but I think it would be really hard to balance if it was like another moon.
What if...what if we used 'Ore'? in this case, wouldn't it be awesome if you could use ore from asteroids. It would be really cool if you could mine through a asteroid belt, but at this point it could be like original moons where it just runs out of ore and you have to move to the next group of asteroids. You wouldn't even need a refining station, you could use it to replace supplies, and have supplies replace latinum.(Supplies currently replace biomatter. I"m not sure what replaces latinum.) Just like latinum, you could refine it right at your starbase.
But like I said, another resource would be seriously difficult to balance...

I quite strongly disagree - but this idea has been brought up in the past and the devs have stated their views on it too.
That being said, I do like the idea of resources being mineable from derelicts and asteroids - though that too has been commented on

There are people who are like "eh, I don't need to mine much tri." And then they lose all their tritanium to raids and are like

I do know that more complexity will be added to the game. People are having problems with the complexity as it is now, though. So I'd rather have not much more, the guide is big enough as it is.

The game is already so complex that balance in every situation is an illusion anyway...any increase in complexity will make FO more unbalanced...

I always have a Tritanium shortage. A bad one. And I jump on Trit moons like a starving Targ! But I'm also a research-junkie. Weapons? More please. Shields? More please. Sensors? More please. Engines? MOAR!!!
My Trit supplies do not thank me for this.

tri is important too. as silent93 says, when you have spent loads of tri on ships and u have resources left, do some research
i feel like tri and di should switch names, as tri should be used more in ship production.

They are measured in units, so you don't know how much it is
. Optec had some statements about that ages ago that are in the Basics-->Economy section of the guide
