Promoting Fleet Ops
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Hey guys. I've had a few thoughts recently I wanted to air out, based on three premises:
*The online Star Trek Community is huge, indeed, it is much bigger than the fleet ops one.
*There are currently no 1/2 decent star trek games out there that are new.
*Due to the work the devs have put in, not only has fleet ops been improved, it has been (pretty much) lifted up from 2001-standard graphics/gameplay to 2006/2007-standard, if not more.
With those three things said, we ought to ask ourselves why the Fleet Ops community isn't a great deal bigger than it is. In my opinion the current reason is that the game isn't being promoted.
Short of increasing the workload of the developers even more, I've had a couple of ideas:
*Create a Fleet Ops facebook page. Currently the Star Trek Armada pages have about 200 fans each, a bit of promotion ought to bring a dozen or so over here, if only out of curiosity.
*Use forums of other Star Trek sites. This doesn't need to be trollish or otherwise annoying, I'm sure most fansites would appreciate this contribution to the Star Trek community.
*Have the ops create a youtube group, and have them regularly put up player videos (recorded via frapps). Eventually enough of them will push fleet ops to the top of the "Star Trek" search, assuming we're clever with the tags.
Thoughts?

like the idea.
Howe about also including wiki and memory alpha entries that reference FO as a mod for A2.
Memory-alpha and wiki already have references to A2, and I believe wiki does mention FO, but there is no wki entry for FO. if we did create one, it would help in informing ppl, as well as memory-alpha.
Screenies of the borg, rommies and dominion etc would be a big attraction.

Good idea. Not certain Memory Alpha, though. The whole canon/official policy may cause problems, since FO is neither.

If someone creates a facebook group ill join it... however i dont have any experience doing stuff like that so i dont want too. Also it would be nice if somone would create some FO themed banners to promote FO on other trek boards, also something ive got no experience with. Another idea i had was to create FO t-shirts as kind of a money making/promoting idea, but not just t-shirts that say something about FO i mean really cool tshirts. Hailing Frequency has post about FO but the newest one is the preview for veteran abilities. With the new star trek movie and star trek online coming out soon the trek gaming community should be receiving some fresh meat, seems like we should do something to draw them in. We need to get people to move from playing single player on to playing multiplayer, because i know that there are a lot more people that have downloaded the patch than i see online.

I've done self promoting within my SFC clan. Most have d/l and tried it and enjoyed it.
I would almost like to see some submissions to popular gaming mags as I'm sure someone would pick this up and write a article about this mod. The work the devs have done is stunning and have extended this game way beyond the original retail life of the game.
KaBoom

The wiki entry for FO was deleted, because it was deemed not important enough (might be that the article itself didn't meet up with the standards of wikipedia)

Wikipedia? Standards? In the same sentence?

I like this idea and I already posted an article on one of germanys biggest online gaming sites: (News) Mod der Woche - Star Trek Armada II: Fleet Operations - Krawall Gaming Network
Personally I think the mod deservs a more popular position in the surrounding of star trek games - hey I am a big trek fan, but 90% of all games are just bullshit. So maybe a perfect staring point for advertsiment would be the star trek-online forum. Just an idea...
For sure, Fleet Operations will get another article on Krawall.de with it's next big release.

yeah, indeed, they do have standards and certain rules for their articles, even the english wikipedia, which is less "harsh" then the german one.

i had another idea. every year moddb does their mod exclence awards, last year i dont think we ever made it into the top 100 so this year whenever it comes around everone on this website should go vote for it. FO is so much better than some of those mods that made it into the finals.
