Possible FO Play Like Sup Com?

I wanted to throw an idea out and see what people thought in regards to possible modding of game play to be in a similar fashion to the Supreme Commander series of games. May be silly, but who knows?

Anyway, ships/production yards/defense structures would be built by tier levels. Maybe Destroyer is tier 1, cruiser-tier 2 and so on? Add larger/more powerful turrets with each new tech level? I know this may not be that much different than destroyer/cruiser/battleship levels in FO after researching different chassis?

Perhaps slow down how much dilith/tritan you get from mining so you need to expand out more to get more moons/income coming in?

I'm not sure if this is possible, but can a ship yard build a turret on it after some type of research is done so it could have limited defense?

I guess I'm just getting the itch to play Sup Com again after working on my mod for so long and thought I'd post it/see what others might come up with.

i guess since they are working on a new game (self made engine or what i dont know?)

could these sorts of things be done in the up coming NX project?

Feds already kind of work this way with the chassis research.

What I'd really like to see is a constant throughput economy like SupCom 1. I like it so much better than the "all at once" economy nearly everything else uses.

amen. TA/SupCom's economy was one of its highlights. AoE was half way there, it had buildings attackable while constructing, and multiple villagers could be assigned to a build to speed it up, but it was still an "all upfront" economy.

Agree with you both. I do miss the economy model there. I think I'm just waxing nostalgic about it and as MadHatter pointed out, the Feds are sort of similar with chassis research. I've been trying to think of different ways of implementing it though I'm not sure the Trek Universe would fit the concept in the best way.

I've envisioned like a destroyer, cruiser and battleship maybe another class in tier 1, then each higher tier has the same classes however, more powerful, but not too much to completely make the next lowest tier obsolete. Different weapon platforms at each tier, different shipyards etc.. Shipyards are essentially just a gantry framework in space with lights on it. so they are cheap and quick to build, but not very strong and would have to be guarded or have a weapon of some sort on them. I know Trek doesn't work by tier level so some suspension of disbelief will have to be employed. :)
