New Races And More
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

I read the news about the new races...but some stuff doesn't add up...Where did the cardassians go? Not that I felt there were amazingly useful to the function of the game but...
Also will some major players be introduced such as Q, was thinking you could use him for an NPC, making him wander around a specialized map where you need to battle this...deity, aswell as your enemies.
Will colonization be put back into the game? I'm hoping to see new planets with realisitic population sizes(in the millions or billions like a normal planet...the standard 5000 was really sad...).
I know you probably have some very good and logical reason for this lack of light speed travel in the game, but I must question your logic...WHY NO WARP DRIVE?! some of the maps with the game are really quite large and take very very long to travel without warp, my suggestion isn't remove warp all together, but slow it down, a lot. With slower warp engines the ships won't be doing Star Wars Hyperspace Jumps, but the crew won't die of old age before they get to their target either.
Is this just me or is the AI for some of the Races better then the others? I noticed the Romulans will make hundreds of defensive structures right away, which considering their zenophobic nature, suits them. While the Federation seems to reasearch more, rather then build ships. Was it made this way, or is the AI just lacking in the intelligence part? (In no way insulting your abilities at all btw)
I've noticed I have some lag issues with maps that have massive amounts of the Asteriod Belts and Dust Clouds...Is this just my machine, it's not exactly "high end" but the game is still entirely playable, just a little laggy at times.
I made this to point out some issues and have some of my personal questions answered, this is in no way attacking the work you all have done. I love this mod, it's amazing. I believe it has the potential to be bought up by Activision as an Expansion. Please continue your great work.

Hi and welcome to the Forums! ^_^
Currently there are no plans to include Q as an NPC, but its an interesting idea, lets see what the future brings
In Beta2 and Version3 planets are just background to look nice and underline the map environment. In Version4 they will get a important gameplay function, also it will be different from the Armada2 colonization.
Warp has been disabled for mutliple reasons. The most important reason is gameplay. On the other hand warp may not be used in a solar system in star trek - most Fleet Operations maps are not even a complete solar system but just a part of it.
Yep, the Beta2 AI was our first attempt to adapt the AI to the gameplay style of a race. Cause Fleet Operations offers much more aspect differences between the races then A2 thats quite complicated. You may look forward to a greatly improved AI in version 3.
Yep there were a few lag problems and a small bug in Beta2. Booth has been solved.

Beta 3 will be out soon *elbows Optec*, right Optec?
Wev'e only been waiting about a year now...
Anyways:
Hmmm... Mabye someone who's a little less omnipotent, lol
Ya, the 5000 thing was uberpathetic. I was never a fan of the whole planet thing, I think they work much better as a backdrop than a crew generator. As for this new v4 function Optec is talking about, it's the first I've heard of it...
I can't express with words how I utterly loathe the A2 warping system... It practicallly killed the whole game for me. Thankfully, you can turn it off, though.
I guess I would be fine with it as an option...
Yes, the AI has problems. For an entertaining game, I recommend playing against the Federation, because they rarely sputter out and die for no reason, like the other races are so prone to. The Borg can also be entertaining, but in the late game, they have an annoying habit of completely stopping ship production, exept for a couple of diamonds.
I got those too after I first downloaded, but the lag issues have mostly cleared up.
As for the Activision Expantion part, I believe DOCa's chosen phrase would be "Over my dead body!!!"
Aside from that, I completely agree. This is the best A2 mod I have ever seen. Period.
btw, welcome to the forms.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.
I'm in agreement with the Q thing, now that I think about it, the defination of god actually floating around near my base would make me a tad uneasy...perhaps the crystalline entity...just something powerful that you might not be able to beat...not floating around aimlessly but drifting about the sector creating problems for fleet movement.
If the planets are to remain a backdrop might I make a small suggestion? this would probebly cause some lag issues but...bigger? bigger is always better (pun very intended LOL) the planets would remain below in the map but them being much larger then your base would help conserve the realism your team is obviously going for.
If it were an option it'd be better, however what was so horrible about it if you don't mind my asking?
I've had very good games agianst the Romulans and the Borg, I usually don't play on hard because I enjoy a long game, one where I save and have the finish the next day. With the AI on hard it seems to attack me far too soon, I lose because I make a lot of technology before I make defense. I enjoy large maps, that's why it was frusterating, I found I could build a defense fleet before the enemies even got here (they even seemed to stop and turn around sometime! Which shows a rather shockingly impressive AI)
As for the lag, you said it clears up, caching? It hasn't cleared, to the point I've noticed anyway...
Ohh, sounds like a linux user, anti-corperate computer software user, lol. The mod is really great, if I had the connections like I should because I'm just that great(such profuse modesty...)...I'd love to find you a buyer, make some money off the hardwork into the project. Not saying it would be any sort of motivation but...money always made me work harder! (oh I sound like a shallow jerk...if I came off as such, please disregard your opinion, I'm American, I'm entitled to be arrogent and greedy!
)
One Year? Really? Can I do anything to help you guys? between my education and social...oh even I can't complete that sentence wth a straight face, I'm a Sci-Fi fan, what social life?
lol (jk). I'm an amature programmer, I believe I have excellent skills at modding and editing ODFs (of course that is the simple part right?) I'm really anxious to see this new version and I'd like to help you guys.
