Klingon Ship Names

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Does anyone know why some kilingon ships come with English names? IKS Doomslayer and IKS Doughslayer for instance?

Thanks

Mayhaps the others don't have a proper translation in our puny earthen tongues?

The 'no translation' is the most likely idea, the languages aren't exact mirrors of each other. Or the Klingons just like those words...

Could be both, though.

there would be no need for translation when playing the klingons? and the other ship names are not translated they are what they would be in klingon? Also cannot see the klingons liking any human phrases or words?

Why wouldn't certain things interest them? They've been close allies long enough to pick up a few things.

I concur with Tyler here, knowing both English and Spanish very well I often find myself having trouble expressing some things from the other language :P

Although, FO should have two kinds of shipnames for a canon effect, the true name and what should appear on the hull/to others.

The names are from stock A2, and the Klingon names are almost entirely gibberish. They didn't even try to get them right. I have a few hundred better names sitting around, but the process is arduous and I'm only at about 15% of my target.

Because the Federation Standard is ENGLISH! Weather it is  written or spoken . Plus if  the "Universal Tranlation Device " was online  it be translated  from the  speakers "Original tounge" in to "Federation Standard" English so  some  cutural nuances  are lost  in the progess. Remember the DS-9 Episode "Little Green Men "At first one  hears  and sees Ferenguie Icons and speech,  but when  Quarks Utd  reboots  you only hear  and see English.

yeah this makes sense when playing a fed observiing or attacking the klingons, but not when your playing the klingons?

Am i missing the point?

Also that would have to be done on the shows? as this is for the viewer? Within the game, knowing what the ship name means is of little consequence? as it is a strategy game not a simulator?

Thanks

Also, the universal translator standard is not english? its whatever the language of the person is? Bolian would have things translated so that the Bolian could understand etc

English is the Federation Standard, which is most likely the default language of any Federation or Starfleet UT. They would naturally have every species native language as an alternate setting.

i wouldn't agree with that necessarily, its a more technical verison of how the UN work! there is no standard language, there are translators for whom ever is speaking, translating from what Language the person is speaking to the language of every person listening.

While I disagree with the idea that the Federation would not assign a universally understood language that all members would understand, and rely entirely on translators. They're not stupid enough.

The inability to understand each other doesn't make a nation work properly, especially not its military.
