Instal XP on a partition, or wait for release?

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Hello, i am new to these forums and just recently found out about this mod a few weeks ago. I am very eager to try it but allas i am now running a Windows vista Machine.

So the question comes to mind? should i bother installing xp on a seperat partition to play the pre release or should i wait until the actuall release. If the actuall release is only a few weeks away then i would like to wait or if the pre release is lacking alot of balance and features i would also prefer waiting. What would you advice me to do?

Thanks for responding.

Yeah, I would suggest loading XP and playing the PR version as I think it will be quite a while before the full FO is released. (There are other topics which affirm to this: that most pariah of subjects)

The version right now is eons ahead of star trek II; so (I think) its worth it :D

hmm
take whatever deadline doca gives us, add 2 years, and thats how long you have to wait :D
(just get XP hint hint wink wink)

Now that XP is so much cheaper, maybe.

However, if you are willing to wait 3-6 months, than I recommend not bothering and useing your money on something more worthwhile.

errr right ive just found a program by microsoft and its free
its a virtual PC and allows you to install a second OS and use it via the virtual PC program the only problem is that you have to specify how much of ur current HDD you want it to take up at the maximum and how much RAM it uses (i reconmend 50% RAM (aslong as you have 1GB or more) but its a good way to solve the compatibility out

GSM, did vista come preloaded on the rig?

yes, virtual pcs have the problem that there is no 3d hardware acceleration making it impossible to use any game. though there is experimental 3d support in some virtual machines it is *very* basic (i am using virtual machines to test fleet operations in fresh environments)

They are developing a patch that should make it compatible, as for when it is done :P we've been asking that for a while now. But we figure as long as we nag them once each day they'll get it done
