Implematation Of Self Destruct

Hello everyone!

Ive been enjoying this great mod for quite a while now. Recently I begun a little odf-modifying, of course for personal use only.
Ive tried to re-add the self destruct to some vessels, but i cant get it to run. What I did was copying the gselfdes.odf to the special weapon folder and then adding
weapon2 = "gselfdes"
weaponHardpoints2 = "hp01"
into the federation_venture.odf.

Why doesnt this work? Did I miss anything?

never saw self destruction in FO... is there n icon for it? lol, sounds like i missed somthin..

me already thought there might lack the icon. but i have not the slightest idea where to look for it.

The icon wouldent be installed, you would need to install a2, find the icon, put it in the right folder, add it to soem sprite file. and do what you did, after making or adding an odf for the self destrucut.

do you know any further hints (where to look, which folder, how to handle the sprite file) or a tutorial or something like that?

well by all theory the weapon is there, as long as under special weapons the self destruct special weapon odf is not overwritten the button is there just not seen

i managed to get it to work.
critical for my understanding was a tutorial which can be downloaded here.

i must say the team did a good and complete job in removing self destruct from the game.

I would like to see self-destruct added back into the game, but maybe by making it a little more useful. As it is, the only reason I'd blow up my ship would be to escape a takeover, or to blow up a derelict. And even that doesnt occur too often as the weapon subsystem has to still be active in order to initiate it.

Why don't they make the explosion cause noticable damage to close ships? That would be useful. Also, every ship ought to have a self-destruct, just as every ship ought to have a tractor beam. Its the way of star trek. We wouldn't accept it if the ships didn't have transporters, we shouldn't leave out other important functions.

What else do you guys think a self destruct should do?

the team aims to balance the game as good as possible.

if you go after star trek lore, balancing would become very difficult. if every unit has self destruct, what can the borg still take over? nothing i suspect. implementing the damage ist no problem concerning the balance.
