@KLOK
To install Linux, you don't need to format you entire hard disk.
You can even have 2 OS installed, like Linux+MSWindows.
Linux can for example play movies that are in Windows partition or play MP3.

There are some posbilities for installing Linux.

1. Linux can install on the same partitions where the windows is,
but it will be slower and can't show it's full potential
2. Linux needs about 1 GB free space for it. You can just resize one of
your's partition with the Partition Magic or program in Linux install dialog.
It's realy easy, never had problems with it. That way you have 2 OS independent
and when you resart you choose what system you want up and running.

In my case I had Windows and Mandrake Linux 9.2, describet in solution 2 and it worked without any problems.

The thing is that Linux sees all windows partitons (and it's file systems like NTFS,Fat32)
and can use it's multimedia files like avi,vob,MP3, actualy every file.
But windows CAN'T see Linux partition.

Offcource, Linux CAN'T start windows exe files and it's applications like Word (use Wine emulator for that).
