hello there, welcome to my thread. please take a seat. you already are? excellent.
so i thought id post in the general section since i have several things to discuss.
first off this mod is great, been playing for some months now (not online yet due to internet conection quality)
its taken me ages to find a copy of armada 2.(that wasnt $200 on ebay no kiding someone had that price up at one point!)
i was wondering if there will be another version released before the next big redo? (iv read enough on this forum to know not to ask when it will come :D )
now a couple of ideas i had
- some sort of holographic ship generator to distract the enemy forces or false radar blips
- a dampening field generator, slows down enemy ships, (if its romulan it could cloak so they would have to search for the generator to destroy it) perhaps later on it could be upgraded with tech structures to take other systems off line or hindered
- a mine deploying station(that can cloak) again need to search to find the station
- perhaps a station that has small remote fighter/platforms like the carrier ships only its stationary?
- nebulas like the badlands, they can move around a certain amont that need micro to manover

- a npc station that can upgrade ships for a cost (premotions to a certain level perhaps? or a new special, larger special energy capacity?)
- random map events, like the ferengi hostile ships come off screen and attack each faction? a singularity pops up and does.. well.. something singularityish
- could the remans become an avatar for the romulans? scimitar (toned down sister ship from the one in the movie)replaces the tavara,few other ships that are new but keep some standard romulan ships aswell? they have a silver romulan warbird instead of green?
few questions
is there a way to force images to fit the size of the forum?
is it possible to alter the in game camera for the next patch so you can move it up or down for better screen capture angles?
will the nebulas be getting a few tweeks/additions of more? to look abit more like some of the films/shows

at the moment they stand out abit to much with the surrounding imo.
is the cardassian pack meantioned in the progress section going to be playable (crosses fingers please please please)
iv read the map maker guide it was great help.
im starting out trying to make some tho probably trying to got to far to fast (tried to make the whole galaxy based on a trek map i found on google. pretty hard to fit in the nebulas, space things out enough yet keep it not being 1,000,000,000 x 1,000,000,000 spaces in size) and the dominion just swamp it so quick.. cant wait for alot more map objects to come in (like the kazon and some other ships to build up some npc factions to make it feel abit more filled out of a map) anyway its on hold til more goodies to put in it :naugthy:

welcome, that's a pretty epic intro thread.
some suggestions, your post is kinda long, i would suggest taking the list of ideas and putting them in one post in the ideas subforum, and keeping this thread just for your welcome party.
remans: I don't think the devs want remans as an avatar, after the whole uprising in nemesis the remans are even worse off than before. they won't get the keys to any warbirds for a long time. reman scimitar will be added though, as a map object.
images to fit the forum:
forum posts are always 600 pixels wide, but the forum doesn't auto shrink them. here's a guide to fit a big image:
step 1) get the direct url to the image, this will be a link ending in .jpg or .png or some image format. when you go to that page it will just show the image and nothing else.
step 2) copy this bbcode into your post:
[nobbc][url][img width=600][/img][/url][/nobbc]
and replace with your image url, replace the angle brackets too.
the width=600 thing forces the image to be 600 pixels wide, the forum automatically adjusts the height to keep the aspect ratio correct. the url thing makes the image clickable, so that when people click it they go to the image's full view.
step 3)

ie this bbcode:

becomes this clickable image:

you can make the width number smaller than 600 if you want to take up less space, especially useful if the image isn't really that important. that's why i used 300
also thread title should be a little more descriptive than just an emoiticon, a mod will likely change that for you, no need for concern about that, this is a pretty friendly forum.

Welcome. It's beat a while since someone got his head ripped off so i guess it's a pretty peaceful place here.

I very much like almost all of your ideas.
I think the holo ships would be very cool whether it would be a ship or a station idk but it could be very useful for distractions or making the enemy think you have a much larger fleet than you really do.
I like the idea of a mine laying station maybe a mine laying turret that only sets down so many mines but has unlimited amount so once one or more depending on how many it lays gets destroyed they will get replaced within x amount of seconds of the mine/mines blowing up.
Fighters is also a good idea and has been brought up many times
I think nebulas such as badlands would be cool but also some nebulas that are unknown that do random things if you stay in there or stay stationary for too long. I also agree that i would like to see more/more diverse nebula.
Random npc attacks would be cool or maybe when a ferangi comes to salvage a ship without a crew it could fire on you or maybe after it salvages some ships it could come out and attack as a neutral party.

this has been said before and is in the guide too i think. it won't replace the tavara, it won't be a mary sue in starship form, and it won't make you a cup of earl grey.

As a fellow Mapmaker, I do have one bit of advice for you. I may have more if you post about your ideas 
I never use large nebula anymore. Large nebulas cause ships to avoid a much larger area around them than small nebulas, and you can build the same shape using 4 smalls. Of course the large nebulas look a bit better so you can use them if you're not planning to have ships flying around them.

thanks guys,
i did see the reman warbird on the map object list but was hoping that one day it might become intergrated to an avatar. with enough persuasion in years down the line. ah well. heres to hoping.
i will confess the title of the thread was an accident and didnt know how to change it
and yeah the post was long but thought id do something abit different for an opener.
i will put suggestions in the proper places next time.
indeed i try to make the nebulas usable or navagatable inbetween, taking into account the a.i trying to aviod it. i made an asteroid field map (the whole map) with enough space for the ai to fly without getting stuck. not quit perfect since i didnt leave enough space for structures in the main base (and didnt take into account enemy a.i. place one mining station for 2 moons. that messed it up abit. but i think im getting the hang of it)

ah yeah i found that now, didnt realise it could alter the title from that.

just a few quick questions about Fleet OPs
1.) why can't we warp as in stock A2?
2.) when is the single player campaign coming?
and that's all i have atm, other than that i must say i'm pretty impressed with this mod so far and i've only played one instant action game so far (just installed it last night).

thread hijack? you should start your own thread for these questions:
1) because stock a2 doesn't have replaceweapons afaik, i think the patch project adds replaceweapon
EDIT: don't mind me, shoulda got more sleep.
2) no time soon, that's a lot of work and they haven't finished multiplayer work yet.

About warp:
Not sure what you mean by replaceweapons being involved Myles
...the warp capability of all vessels has been removed. As a consequence, retreating from torpedoes by warping away will no longer be a major aspect of gameplay, and attacking an opponent's base is composed of clever strategy and intelligent fleet combinations to achieve greater efficiency. Although maps are larger in Armada II than in Armada I, warp-capable ships could reach any point of the map within seconds, leading to Warp-In – shoot – Warp-Out tactics. It likewise removed the need for slower vessels, as well as vessels that had special weapons to lay “traps”. Turrets and defensive structures could also be easily skirted using warp.
Warp is a very good aspect if it supports the game. For example, in a game like Starfleet Command, or a first person shooter with a storyline, warp can be very interesting. For a Real Time Strategy game, however, it just doesn't fit. Thus, to allow more strategic accented game-play, only impulse speed is available. Experiences from Armada I showed the developers that this solution fits the game the best.
Of course this seems to be un-Trecky, but for an RTS game you always have to adapt the source material - in this case Star Trek - to fit the requirements of the genre. If you really need a “technical” argument, a Fleet Operations map is a sector. We rarely hear of any warp traffic within a sector or star system and as seen in one of the movies and some of the episodes, it’s also not a good idea to go to warp while being in a star system. If warp drive were that useful, nobody would use impulse drives. It is a weak point, but that's enough for the developers, as strategy always goes first - this is a game, not a simulation.
