We can probably be sure that the final release of FO 3.0 will be a hefty file size, so I'd like to ask the staff if they would consider breaking up the file for those of us with slower connections.

and now that we are on this you should also think about making a torrent (cause it wolnt screw up even if your pc shuts down) and maby making a mirror on FF I am shure that the guys at STA files will help (least they better I would and I am an admin at supcom files (another site))

as with previous versions there won't be split version of fleet operations. i don't know about the exact size yet, but i can tell you on 27th this month, as we are packing up the files for the closed beta. i'd estimate it will be around 200-250mb then.
i'd recommend to use a download manager, thats what i always do when downloading a very large file

Sometimes even download managers are prone to slow connections or losing the connection to the download location.

Are there still people around with a connection slower than 512 kbs or even 1000? I dont want to be an asshole to say this cos I know some people dont have a choice but people on 56k should use other ways to get FleetOps like a friends/works/schools internet and then load the file on your USB stick or so. I dont see a difference by splitting up the main install exe anyway. I really seem to miss the point. You cant just split a game and consider it playable... this is not going to be some sort of file overwrite mod. It's a new full game more or less.

The point is that not everyone has a fast internet connection. While going to school or the library may be feasible for some people, it may not be feasible for others. There is also the fact that some schools enforce restrictions on downloading files.

Also, there is no reason why one should have to travel or possibly expend fuel to download a game file outside of their home if alternative download methods (breaking up the file) are available. Furthermore, many people may simply not have the luxury of time to go to the places you suggested. Does this help make things more clear for you?

hey most likely if theres a vista issue with the new release ill upload a copy like i previously have...
otherwise im happy to split the file into a zip (25mb files or something) and uploadfor those who need it

And why do you need splitted up files if you can use a download manager that allows you to pause, resume and continue aborted downloads any time?

This a free program that you are not paying for so it is galling to make demands of the developers.  I had to laugh at "many people may simply not have the luxury of time" or willing to "expend fuel" to go to places to download the large FREE program file.  Are you kidding me?  These "many" people are going to spend hour upon hour playing this game, but have no time to go to a location outside their home to download it?  Does not compute.

Au contraire mon amis, you are mistaken. A request is not a demand is it? Also, some files do not always let you resume downloading even with a download accelerator. If you know of a good one, please share it with us.

You are mistaken on both points. Dont tell yourself otherwise. Whats the point in sharing a good one with you when your already said their all useless, and too lazy to get one yourself. If its not important to you then skip it.

resuming a download is a feature of the server you download from, not the download manager. our fleet operations mirror will be resumeable
