Curious About Beta 3
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

I might get strung up and banned for this, but here goes.
Tomorrow will be the(i think) 1 year anniversary of Beta 2. Now, just for kicks, I looked up the release date for Beta 1 and Beta 2 and found that Beta 1 was released on April 30, 2003 then Beta 2 was released on Oct. 4, 2003.
My question is why is it taking so long this time around?
This question wasn't meant to be sarcastic or impatient(although I am). I don't have any modding experience, so I am really curious as to which part of Beta 3 is taking so long. Is it new graphics, the dominion, avatars, school...?
I really appriciate the work done on this project and thank the team for their dedication, but like I said,
Just curious.
Let the lynching begin!

I think the increase in teh time span has to do with the sophistacation of the program. They added many new features in Beta 3 and they are working as fast as possible, hopefully. I know how it is to mod and i takes forever...

i think tweaking is the most time demanding, I know when I used to write programs that it took me longer to make everything work right then to actually write it

the thing is we thought in april we were nearly done yet, but we didn't thought the avatars would take so long and also the dominion, optec was about to finish school, and we had to solve 1 or 2 big bugs that took 4 days day and night to track down with plenty of test games etc -> i hate unstable and crashing mods. so there we had more to do than we thought.
now only a few things are missing, some textures left and some smaller problems to solve.

I thought it was setbacks and such, but I wasn't sure.
I also remember Optec saying something about school being busy, so I completely understand.
Out of curiousity, which part of this beta was the hardest and longest to figure out? Was it the avatars or something else?

I think that when it comes to v3, most people are a little impatient, as it looks just far too good
However, i dont think i could ever call v3 a mod, as mods generally only add to the game, with the set parameters given by the developers. V3 however looks like its litteraly blasting apart that whole concept, with (what i would call) such new and ingenious features, that i'd call v3 a new game altogether.
I for one, am sooo looking forward to its release, that i check up every day, and when i see its not done, i just go and play beta2 for a lil while
(it keep me happy and passes the time at least).
I can only thank optec and the other guys involved in such a great 'new' game

thanks Doca for the warm welcome (well for my first message anyway ^_^ )
You guys are doing a great job, i think its important to voice my appreciation for such good work... i think the proof of the pudding is that i recently 'tried' to play the original a2, and got sick of it almost immediately. For me a2 *IS* fleetops, and there's no going back
Im just looking forward to the point when after playing v3, i try to play beta 2 and get sick of it... for me, that would be a success for v3!
(and i think its good that fleetops is appealing to the slightly more 'aged' player base... not that im saying 24 is old by a long shot! hehe)

With respect Nova, I think you got it right on your first post.
For those who haven't seen this, take a look in the Technical Stuff section in the forum and look at the thread that talks about the B3 minimum specs.
These are the minimum specs:
1 Ghz
256 Ram
64 VRam
Now these are the 'officially recommended':
1.5 Ghz
512 Ram
128 VRam
The point I'm making is that with the graphic enhancements, new features, etc., B3 isn't Armada 2 anymore, it's a new game. B3 is Armada 3. For comparison, the specs for Fleet Ops is right up there with Rome: Total War, War40K: Dawn of War, and almost certainly Battle for Middle Earth.
Sorry to all those who won't be able to play FO, but this info makes me giddy as a school girl.
