Beginning a Game?
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Hey, I was just wondering the first thing you do when you start a game. For instance, do you build a shipyard or a mining station? How many freighters for each moon? What kinds of ships do you build for defense (any race)? What kinds of things do you do to build and mantain your economy/military? What do you do if your invaded and outnumbered? How do you survive and conquer? Any input you guys might have for at the beginning of your campaign.
Thanks!

First things I do:
Set all units to all red allert.
Build a mining station around your two moons. while they are building, build 6 mining freightors.
After the first two stations are done, send one constructor to your other nearest moons, build minind ststions at the dilithium moon first. send the other constructor to build the first shipyard.
when the mining ships are done, send two to the first Dilithium, moon ant two to the first Tritanium moon, three at each. sent the other two to the new mining stations. While these are building, build about 6 - 8 of the first attack ships available to you.
then build the science station or special weapon updrades from the ship yard, or turrets. Build two more mining ships makind a total of 3 mining ships per moon.
That is my best start. Ill PM you Morts Ideas.

Well... this is going in the strategy guide anyways... but... a few short words to begin with
Depends on what race you are playing really:
Non-Borg: build 1 mining, 1 shipyard to start.
No more than 3 freighters per moon is best, but depends on your strategy as I generally do not run out of tritanium... and thus I use only 2 freighters per tritanium moon. That is all for now. :whistling:
Adm. Zaxxon way seems way to slow and undefensible for my tastes personally.

well that is my way, If you will try it out in a game with me and ray we are in the lobby now
, not to say that Ill win, I just suck after this point. Also My Ideas only work for non borg races.
BTW I don't think anyone runs out of tritanium

@ Zaxxon
I have.
Anyway, I first start building 1 mining station per moon, and I build an extra two freighters per mining station, totaling to 3 mining freighters per moon. After the first mining station is done, I send my free constructor to build a yard, and then I fill up the yard's build que with 1st tier vessels. I then begin reasearch while expanding, and so on and so forth.

This is what Mel wrote. Adm sent me this earlier:
What I do when playing as Ben Mayson. Anything in parenthesis is optional.
Construction ships 1 and 2 doing their thing concurrently.
1: Dilithium Mine, Tritanium Mine, Starfleet Science, Starfleet Command, Antares yard, Eventually Starfleet Engineering, (Un-upgraded turrets), Eventually Euradi Yard
2: Antares Yard, Expansion, Expansion, (Un-upgraded turrets), continue expansion.
All Yards are set to low movement autonomy, which will make sure that your ships fire at max range instead of moving closer.
Antares build order: Sabers until Starfleet science, then Norways and Norway spam. You can pretty much win with Norways. Maybe build a few canaverals with sensor blackout.
Starfleet Command: Normal warp-in ships. Hope for lots of Steamrunners and Excelsiors. And a few Galaxies. Maybe one nebula for the long range scan ability. I do this over descents because excelsiors level up fast, leaving the possiblity for more warp-ins.
Euradi Yard: Excelsior II spam. Eventually go to lvl 2 chassis and build some Remores.
What usually happens next is resource based. Too much tritanium? Build Norways or Remores, and 1 or 2 canaverals. Too much Dilithium and not enough tritanium? Build Excelsior IIs.
A quick fleet looks like this. As many Excelsior IIs as possible, which become my capital ship and destroy as much as possible from range. Norways are interceptors. They use plasma coil to obliterate destroyers + cruisers. 16 Norways will destroy even a battle ship with plasma coil, which can be used maybe once every 45 sec to a min. Move norways out of range when on cooldown unless you need extra firepower, because they cost so much in tritanium. So we have destruction from range and from aoe. Use the Canaverals sensor blackout on large fleets when plasma coil is down. I also have a group of sabers and Excelsior refits as fast range attackers. Dont forget about repair ships!
Probably the Federations best strategy is firing from long range while retreating. The saber/excelsior group for destroyers and cruisers, the Excelsior IIs for Battle ships. Their speed and long range make them perfect for this. Attack, then attack while retreating.
Usually, Im playing on The Very First Map (4 player map) against two Hard AIs on the same team, same race. Race doesnt really matter for me. So I do my build order, have a group of sabers with warped-in excelsiors. They have been harrassing AI 1, mainly to gain experience. Remember, each warp-in that gets officer rank is now free. I actually assault AI 1 when I: Have maybe 8-16 norways, 12 sabers/excelsiors (preferrably 16), and whatever other warp-in ships I have. Maybe one canaveral. I should have a small group of Galaxies and Nebulas, and a steamrunner or 2. Thats all that I take against AI 1. I leave my base when I have an Euradi Yard or 2 building Excelsior IIs which will be my defense force for now. That and the norways Im still building.
What needs to happen now is to destroy their fleet in their base. Take the saber group and draw their ships away from their base. See if you can get their ships to clump as much as possible. Then nuke them with the norways. The only ships in your fleet that should be taking damage are the Nebulas and Galaxies. Thats their role here. Once their fleet is destroyed, find their Shipyards and destroy them. Use your steamrunner(s) and use the triloader. Then take 2 norways per ship and use the emergency power special to recharge their ability. Repeat. You can also use any ship with a long enough range to not be hit by a turret to attack their yards. Once they are destroyed, and no other enemy ships are around, destroy their Starbase. Once youve taken out their starbase, shipyards and construction ships, they are no longer a threat.
Retreat home because youll be under attack by AI 2. Weather the tide of capital ships with your mark IIs while reinforcements arrive. Keep taking their wave out one by one. The AI is pretty stupid, so this should be easy. Now you have a whole fleet of Sabers/excelsiors, Norways, AND mrk IIs, fight to their base, take out any expansions, and blockade them if you want. That will give you time to clean up what you left from AI 1 and get their resources. Then build enough ships (including lots of remores) to win!
Pretty long winded, but effective! Risner has some different strategies that are pretty good, too. Hope this helps.
