Beta 2 Is a beta. Because V3 is going to have everything they wanted.

Wrong Preator. Beta 2 is 2.0, V3 or 3.0 is actually Beta3.
Final version will be maybe V6.
But Beta is not that good description, because it is mostly stable and totaly playable, it's not testable version, but completely playable.

Wrong Sfera, B2 is Beta 2 and V3 is Version 3.

Well, discussions in this forum led to the community and the developers realizing that Fleet Operations was more than a Beta. In fact, Beta 2 already was better than many released games. It was was a true total conversion.

And when Optec asked, what we would think was a good name for the next version, we put in those arguments and made suggestions.

Fleet Operations 3.0 made it, as it shows the continuing development process (paralleling normal software released), gives the opportunity to apply smaller changes (making it 3.1, 3.2 and so on) with patches and shows that it is truly something like a new game (thus stripping the name of that "Beta").

This is how it came to the new name. To shorten it, many write V3 now.

yes, having beta in the name just confuses people. it was a good name for the first version though as many people had problems with starting the game, random crashes or some things just weren't working. the idea was having beta in the name was working towards a final version (1.0) that has all the features and races we anounced with the launch of beta 1. but some people just misunderstood that beta hasn't to do with mssing stability, fun factor or tons of ships that weren't updated. so you were right in the thread some time ago changing the name and be less confusing with it cause some ppl didn't get the message till then

Yep, V3 is not the final version of Fleet Operations. just check the "planed features section", there you can read:

- 3 more races: Iconian, Dominion, Ciadan (Also it should now be Iconian, Noxter, Ciadan cause the Dominion made it)
- More Non playable races for map environments
- neutral stations which can be occupied and grant special bonuses
- hireable mercenaries

all stuff we don't have in v3 yet. so you can already look forward to it

yes, under the circumstance that this feature site isn't all up to date. there are many more features on our list of course but you will know about them sooner or later.
