No Trickery, Thats a real pic. i got the backround off of A2Files in the maps/mapbackrounds section. i got a pic like that of each of my 9th fleet Ships(except the USS Precept Prometheus class)

i don't know what it is about dominion Ships, they just look dam good in dim to none lighting. so you can just barely se their outline and can clearly see their warp glows and alpha maps

the graphics for folite are actually quite good bearing in mind that they were toned down on purpose to make it run on weak computers.
