What do you mean?

I believe it would be a visual effect that, for the sharp eyed player, would allow them to track (possibly just momentarily) a cloaked ship. It would recall Kirk standing on the bridge looking at the stars for any blurring.

I keep coming back to the conclusion that slow-reloading very powerful chained or area weapons are the best defense against clustering ships and/or turrets.

What are Star Trek examples, per species/race/empires, of these types of weapons? I do't want to return to the silly weapons of Armada II.

Federation/Romulans: Virus that would chain through a fleet destroying some capacity

Klingons/Romulatns: Suicide ships with big explosions. Maybe even a larger mobile lab that could produce an unstable omega particle and then blow up afterwards.

What were those illegal weapons used in ST: Insurection? Those could be used by someone to create a long term detructive space "rip."

ST 2, The Wrath of Khan

when the bop is cloaked and kirk is showing someone where it is.

only sensor relays do have techion detection and it is more expensive to research.. i think this should inrease the efficency of cloak.. thinking about the sensor relays aren't mobile it should be quite hard to find a cloaked fleet on the map. of course it is dificult to infiltrate the enemy base while cloaked

every race has it's "big bang" weapons (trcobalt torpedo, ultridium burst, assault disruptor and so on) and a spread of quantum torpedos with 20 damage each is, what i would call a big bang :-)

LOL
ok, but anyway, there should be at least one ship with tachyon detection grid available, as high level tech. when at the end of a game a klingon player hides his last cloaked ship somewhere on the map it isn't fun to search for....

mh.. your're right, i haven't thought of this.. perhaos a second tachion detection grid upgrade ("mobile tachion sensors" or something) to bring back tachion detection to scouts.. should be expensiv (arround 800/800) and will need the "normal" tachion detection grid to be researchable..

If the cloaking ability is researched, won't it go away if the research base is destroyed?

hmm, what a way to cripple someone.

yes.. it is hard to do making research stay after the base is destroyed. i definitly want to do this for the final release, but this means a ´lot of editing.. and time ;-)

I would keep it so that the research could be destroyed.

so i take it that it is impossible to make ships that have it keep it, while making new ships unable to use it until it is reresearched.

right..

but it seems to be possible to let the upgrades stay, even if the building is destroyed.. make them hiding and you will never find them :-)
the problem is, i will have to handle with the win / loose paramters, cause otherwise the upgrades will count as ships or stations the the player won't loose..
