8472 Vs TNG Borg
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

If it was the TNG version of the Borg (before they were neutered) fighting Species 8472, how do you reckon it would end up?
TNG Borg ships usually seem more powerful and far less fragile than the VOY ones, more intelligent (no idiotic Queen), could adapt without needing to assimilate first and seemed to have much better Regeneration. It should be less one-sided.

i still think 8472 would own the borg afterall id guess u need to survive a blast inorder to adapt

Pleaaaaase, 8472 can bust up a planet, what's a tiny little cube-ling to them?

Parts of Cubes have been shown to survive the destruction of the ship they're part of, so that can still apply to them. Just less likely to work.
Ships and planets are very different targets. That also needs a small fleet in a vulnerable formation and needs to actually survive to pull it off.

thats also a really good point plus took untill sto timeline for the borg to be able to adapt and assimilate a 8472 so tng would stand no chance dont forget in voy time period the federation would have dne a lot of research into defeating the borg in tng the borg were a new type of threat

8472 was one of the top 5 stupidest decision ever in Star Trek television history. They take what was essentially the baddest guy on the block and, as someone described, neutered them for some lame plot about a "new" and "exciting" super enemy. They then humanize 8472 and make it so that they are at best allies with the Feds and at worst neutral. What the fuck where they thinking when they OKd that script.
Since its out there now there is no way that the Borg could stand up to 8472 because their ships were getting blown up left and right when they were fighting which would make borg assimilation pointless since it takes some time. They even blew up planets..........I wish Voyager had never existed. There is literally nothing that I can think of that came from that show that made a positive impact on Star Trek canon........all they did was screw everything up.

i say the borg would win
why ? well first the borg are really more intelligent than the ( stupid crappy ) voy ones. they show that they were intelligent enough to assimilate one specific person ( picard ) to overrun the feds. second they showed that they are capable of "research". send a single drone to assimilate the 1701-D's database so they could analize what they are dealing with and how to react and engage this new spezies. they also acquired human "samples" with the use of the cutting beam. later they tested federation and romulan defense capabilities ( the border outposts ). and then they decided to engage. in my opinion this is called research ... no stupid "we only understand what we can assimilate". the most advanced species in the universe can only understand what they assimilate ? this is like "i can only understand food through eating it. yes i know i also have two eyes to see and my fingers to feel and my nose to smell but i want to use only my tounge" yeah this is stupid so why should the borg act like this ? they are intelligent enough to scan ... intelligent enough to observe ... in my opinion they are even intelligent enough to focus 8472's agression on other species and wait until they develop counter mesaures and assimilate them to gain the knowledge ... its called outsourcing
yes the borg will win ... they always will ... sooner or later

" They then humanize 8472 and make it so that they are at best allies with the Feds and at worst neutral" -nathanj
What crack you smokin? O.o 8472 was never buds or neutral to the feds, they are, and will always be enemies to all who aren't 8472 lol.
As for the topic at hand.... by the question "TNG Borg" I'd say 8472 would win. Sure I'm a borg fan, and they're much more powerful than voy versions, but without the technology Voyager helped them get to assimilate 8472, the borg already stood no chance. They were getting blown up left and right (partially I blame the neutering).
However the Borg do attend to adapt in time... so even if they weren't given the technology from voy episodes to counter attack 8472, I believe the Borg would eventually overcome 8472... hmmm this is a difficult decision.
But sadly because of the topic question. my answer is: [Species 8472 wins]
I feel like I have betrayed the collective... Process me for disassembly.
