voyager once bombarded a subspace instability with verterons to get a wormhole to appear.
i was thinking of a new map object, similar to a wormhole but is "closed" at first. and needs to be opened by a support ship. so the wormhole appears small and wont allow ships at first. but a support ship can force it open temporarily, at the cost of all the special energy on the ship.
the wormhole then stays open for a while, and closes later.
kinda like a transwarp conduit, but for all races, and the map maker picks the fixed route.
EDIT:
maybe as an addition the more energy a support ship has, the longer it can wedge the wormhole open. obviously the borg ships have loads of energy, so it would have to be balanced so that a diamond could keep it open for about 100-150% of the time a remore can keep it open.
