What happened to the target projectile weaopon?

For some reason they tended not to shoot down incoming projectiles in the shows. Really stupid especially in Generations (Everyone on the bridge's thoughts: Oh crap they can fire thru our shields! Well, let's just let those torps come at us without a challenge and find out a clever way to make them kinda vulnerable for a small window. Everyone a little later's thoughts: Maybe we should've done something about those torpedoes...) This was one area in which the 2009 movie is more logical :huh: than the shows were. Anyways photons do have shields so maybe the amount of fire needed to destroy the photons is more than it's worth? Only reason I can see for not including point defense. Still would be nice to be able to target them tho.

I always assumed it would take longer to destroy the torpedo than it would take for it to hit its target.

Anyways, point defense is a bit unbalancing.  Imagine someone using it a lot as a borg ally...

Heh, yeah, it was removed from FO code, which really stinks.

I am, however, working on a way to fix that in my mod.  Hopefully I will be able to blow my enemy's missiles out of the sky :woot:(figuratively of course)

I like to see point defense weapons make a return. They could be intresting atributes that the forthcoming races could posess.

In Voyager it's explained that shooting a torpedo is a really bad idea. Think starship shattering kaboom.

By my understanding the point defense phaser classlabel is no longer function in FO. There was a Zevestivan ship in my Sigma that was based entirely around using the PDP to shoot down missiles but now the weapon crashes in this new patch and thus I've had to remake the ship from scratch. I do hope PDP functionality is added back in the future though.

Any torpedo explosion at close range is bad, past short range is fine. That's why firing them at close range isn't advised.

Torpedoes are fired at warp speeds, so it might be a little difficult to destroy them, with a weapon that won't reach it's target in time :sweatdrop:.
