Weapons Range and Speed

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

Hey all, so I was reading some of the do's / do nots. and it was saying about how to organize fleets by weapons range and speed...

So I was wondering if we could add that information somewhere within gameplay. When you scroll over a ship, it currently gives you a description of specials with ships stats of off/def/sys. I was wondering if we could add the weapons range and the speed here as well. and/or add it to the shipyards themselves.

i know this can all be seen in database. ive memorized most of the klingons, like brel speed of 140, most of the middle ships have speed of 120, and cruisers are generally 100, or 110 for neghvar and luspet.

but, even though I know most of you probably already know this stuff, it could still serve as reminder/reference, and for newer players, it would be a lot easier for access to the information. you already see the ship stats which is big help in game, so maybe a little more information.

but especially for when playing other factions. when I play a game like against federation or romulan. if I'm in a one on one ship fight, for instance akira vs 2 sangs. im guessing akira is medium, i know sang is long. but i dont know what there speeds are. so can i retreat faster or not?

This way. whenever you are involved in a fight, you could just scroll over either fleet and see who has faster ships etc. you know if you can run, or hunt them down with speed advantage.

beyond this, knowing the weaknesses/strengths of ships would be useful.. but thats not really what im asking, but if its doable. getting weapons range and speed would be fantastic. if beyond that, we could put just simple strength-S = vs long, weakness-W = vs short. That would be even better.

WR - Short
SP  -  140
SA  -  support
WA - long

or what have you. WR - weapons range, SP speed, SA strong against, WA weak against. or just N/A where necessary.

this is mostly for newer players, or just for those who have been around a shorter time and are familiar with these things, but havent fully memorized them yet. i think it would help familiarize themselves with the factions quite a bit.

im thinking of something a lot similar with how the stats are displayed. with descriptions of those things above.

The ship tooltips already show weaponrange, hovering over the weapons system icon (single-ship select) shows the range of the conventionl and special weapons and hovering over a special weapon button shows the range of special weapons (not 100% certain about the last).

Passive descriptions include which range it counters and is countered by (if any). Like the weaponrange, you can see the information by hovering the mouse of the special weapon icon in single-ship select.

oh! awesome! thanks

learn something new everyday

well adding in speed somewhere then.

or even still adding it in like before so its all clearly visible together. but whatever. but getting speed in somewhere as well would help a lot. I've always wondered if I can outrun or catch up with ships or not.

eh, I think it (Speed Display) would take some of the fun out of it. "Can I make it.. YES" vs "I won't make it it has 125 and I don't" though more as a psychological effect as we all know the circumstances of the game can affect that.

Though I do understand where you are coming from and can see it's benefits speaking objectively.

Oh Welcome the game!

you can approximately tell if ship is slow or fast depending on its range

short range ships are generally faster than long range ships
and it also depends on passives / special abilities (hyper impulse, war impulse engines,...)

I'd like to see speed and build time, these are the only things FO doesn't tell us although they are important. Of course there are basic rules, but there are also ships like Negh'Var, Eresis or Sang which don't fit in there. Therefore it would be nice to see it. An idea would be to the show speed as a tooltip when hovering over the engine subsystem.
In the yard tooltip I'd appreciate build time very much, I think it can be a very important information.

I think I would still prefer it to be in the box where you just hover over the ship and it gives you the ship values, as well as in individual ship select.

I checked it out, and yeah, when you select the ship, you can hover over the specials and what not to see the range, and some passives etc. Also, hovering over the weapons array gives you description of how much damage the phasers or torps do, and how fast they shoot/reload. That was a nice thing to see, was looking over whole fleets to see the differences.

But back to having this included when you hover over the ships.

1. It would be much much faster. If you had say a fleet engagement of 2 Kbeajq, 1 Qawduj, 1 Vorcha, and 1 Sang, vs 3 Sabers, 2 Monsoons, 1 Nova, and 1 Intrepid. It would be more convenient if all you had to do is hover over each of these ships, instead of individually selecting them and manually viewing their system displays.

2. You can retain control of your entire fleet during combat while looking up the info. Issuing attack orders repairs as required etc.

When you are not being attacked, you can easily familiarize yourself with your own ships with individual ship select, and thats fine. But depending on what attacks you, you still need to look up there info, and if you don't know what counters them, you would still have to look back at your own fleet.

I don't think the speed display will really change a lot... It's just as fun with the other information being included, imagine if they took something out of what is already given... it wouldnt make it more fun because now you have to guess how much your ships cost, or what their passives are, or what the description of special weapons is. It's just more information to reference.

build time would be an interesting one to have. If  your in a crunch, and you want a fast ship. Or if you have 500 di, and three affordable ships that are relatively even medium class vessels, which is the fastest and go!

and yeah, personally, I think it would be good information to have along side the ship value stats.
