how about introducing warping for bigger maps, I'm jsut annoyed at how long it takes to move fleets around...but i guess thats part of the strategy

The problem is warping adds in a lot of problems.  Some of the larger maps have wormholes to speed things up a bit, but in general they do lead to longer games.  Most people prefer to use relatively small maps, though (as compared to the maximum possible).

big maps mean you absolutely must plan when and where you want your fleets to be at ALL times. As not to be in the wrong place at the right time. or vice versa. I like this feature.

It's not always planning; luck is certainly involved, too.  And it also depends on the race.  The bigger the map, the worse the Borg are, for example.
