Vorcha idea

got an idea for one of my fav ships

we all remember the episodes where the vorcha fired pulses from its main cannon, we all remember that reused shot in ds9 where it fired green pulses.

i suggest giving the vorcha that pulse sometimes. i have a couple ideas on how.

[glow=red,2,300]1)[/glow] a refit, like the romulan refits, give the vorcha 2 refits:

unrefitted it gets a weaker beam than now.

[shadow=red,left]Beam Refit:[/shadow]  we all remember the episode of ds9 where the lone vorcha was attacking a dom dread, we thought to ourselves is the vorcha really that strong? or was the captain drunk. i propose he was using a beam refit vorcha.

this refit would give it a more powerful beam weapon by default. and a special toggle weapon which allows it to behave like that infamous vorcha in ds9. similar to the excel II's special, but effect is until cancelled, when activated the vorcha loses engines but it's beam increases in power and its shields prepare to receive counter attacks. the beam does greatly increased damage to battleships and only just above normal damage to smaller ships. also as the ship should be firing at a battleship ECCM is not a priority and the beam misses with the same percetages as torps.

this vorcha would obviously be a battleship destroyer, allowing it to last later into the game than current. as the vorcha is the new bread and butter ship

Pulse refit:

gives the vorcha the pulses we saw it firing. obviously giving the vorcha good strength against small ships like the bugs it was attacking on screen. pulses would follow the current fleet ops system for pulses.

this would allow the vorcha to mop up destroyers, or even be fielded earlier. further demonstrating its usefulness.


possibly these refits might be less efficient than romulan ones. costing more/taking time to refit.

on a side note i think the romulan refits should take time to refit rather than be instant. not long, just a few seconds.

instead of refits the pulses could be given to random vorchas. so some vorchas u build will have pulses and some beam.

also maybe the beam upgrade idea i mentioned for the beam refit could be for veteran vorchas, if the idea of refits for the vorcha isn't appealing.

a crazy idea that i think is on the realm of what is possible:

have the vorcha get the beam upgrade/pulses upgrade at officer/veteran rank depending on what it killed. so if your vorcha has killed lots of destroyers it will get the pulses, if it has killed larger ships it will get the beam.

Noooo don't make the Vutpa' redundant, nooooooo! Sorry, those ideas sound a lot like the Norexan and at the same time make the Vor'cha even better at attacking destroyers  :sweatdrop: . I'll let the rest of people carry on  :blush:  :whistling:

what about the idea for the beam refit for attacking large ships later into the game?

But right now it does 100% damage to larger ships based on the beam weaponry.

  Don't get me wrong: you're trying to find a use for the pulses that we saw in DS9.  I dig that :thumbsup:.  Klingons just have SOOOO many ships armed with Pulses already that when I want the next stage heavy hitters, I go to the Vorcha because it won't miss smalls like the Sang and it won't suffer against Battleships like the Vupta, Kvort, and B'rel.


  I'd suggest a special weapon instead that fires off a burst of pulse weapons with some sort of special effect.  Perhaps suggest that the mixed-tech Fed Vorcha get a Pulse Disruptor Bombardment to replace it's Polaron Torp:  instead of disabling 1 system for 8 seconds (or however long it is), have multiple systems disabled for half that long or something.

Refits like that are meant to be the Romulans specialty. I like the idea of the veteran randomly getting one of two seperate varients, though. Randomizing replaceweapons should be possible.

Either the vet getting it (with Tyler's "random" idea), or Boggz mixed tech idea sounds really cool to me  :thumbsup:

Boggz's mixed-tech idea is actually the best, because the fed-mixed tech Vor'cha is best suited to attack smaller ships by nature - namely with the "refined disruptor". So a special weapon that fires a pulse volley and disables engines on destroyers only (with a percentual chance like the Shrikes and officer-K'Vorts pulses) is bearable.

A similar special weapon would be cool on the D'Deridex as well, but that's a different thing.

the Vutpa' will receive a set of new and unique weaponry in the upcoming 3.1.3 minipatch, and i think we might put some love on the Vorcha too, by changing its veteran ability, like mentioned in another thread
