Veteran Points

Hi,

first post ;-) ... I love Armada II and this mod is quite perfect ... it blasts the expectations!

anyway ... I found out that these "Veteran Points" in my opinion are imbalanced! 25 points figure two Sovereign classes and 1 Excelsior Class-II ... would it be twice that much it would be perfect. Maybe you guys can edit and balance these classes each race if same balanced as with the federation. A tactical cube of the borg or a "normal" cube will be imbalanced if you can promote them like with the federation (didn´t tested it yet ... will do it during the next days).

The veterans are limited to 25 slots because many are very powerful. Take the Steamrunner and Galaxy for example; they can shoot through shields and the Steamrunner can even cause heavy damage to a Starbase by itself because of the anti-Station weapons it has pass through the shields and can be set to fire with almost no delay.

The Borg don't have an experience system, so they don't have veterans. Their later (in future patches) system will be very different to other races.

Yes ... they possibly can deal hard damage anyway ... certainly you can edit or rather limit ships with promotion calls to veterans ... this will be some work to do. Maybe you can limit of each ship classes the promotion calls but I really mind these 25 points for promotions calls.

Either that or he just stumbled upon your post, but what are the odds for that..

Anyway, as mentioned the veteran points are limited because of the enormous strength of those veteran units.

While increasing the number of slots would require rebalancing the veterans to be less capable to make up for bing able to get more of them.

The next patch will introduce a few changes to veterans, including new and more fun veteran abilities. Besides that, we want to keep the limit that way, as they are a really strong asset. There are plans for research or similar options to increase the limit for late game, but they are still mere ideas ^-^

the veteran cap is balanced for multiplayer, where it is good.

if u wish to mod your own installation to include a higher veteran cap you can do so, u just wont be able to use that modded installation to play online any more. to do this u simply need to modify a file in notepad, then u can have loads of veterans.

Okay ... thx guys! ;)

I don´t want to edit the file(s) via notepad. Waiting for the new patch to check what has been done with this feature (what is on the hole a really, really nice idea)! Keep it up guys ... this mod is really enjoyable (surely one of the best mods I´ve played so far!!! ;) )

When you play a bit you will also note that unless the opponent really goes out of their way to target your veterans you will find they are always the survivors from your skirmishes.  Lesser ships come and go, but the vets live on.  :thumbsup:

just an idea, as in stock armada, you are able to choose the officer limitation for a game.
Would it be possible to make it so you can set the vet limit to a certain amount in before the game?

The officer limit was in the main game files rather than an odf, I don't know if you could replicate that without moving veteran cap to the 'RTS_CFG' file.

Setting it by avatar should work, though. Using a seperate veteran cap file for the second one would require an entire line of ranks for all ships, though, even ones without bonuses.
