Several members have requested all sort of changes to the defiant in the past. Ive been a strong supporter of a more aggressive style of pulse phaser, falling in line with what is seen visually on the show/movies. However the Devs as far as I know have made no indication that the defiant would recieve "volley" style pulse phasers. Uness this is changing in the redo.
Im suggesting that instead of the volley style Quantum torpedoes she recieves at veteran, she instead gets volley style pulse phasers and the quantums be limited to 2 torpedoes every x seconds.
Ive recently been watching lots of compilations of the Defiant in action, and in almost all instances she fires her pulse weapons with anywhere from 3 to 8 shots in a volley. While her quantum torpedoes seem to be limited to 1 to 2 torpedoes fired from port and starboard and on rare occasion. The current ingame veteran defiant fires her pulses lazily and spams quantum torpedoes like an E2. Shouldnt it be the other way around?
Im hoping the Devs will take this into consideration and hopefully apply something along these lines into the next patch which features major redos. Im only looking for a visual change to how she presents herself not changing her balance. I dont want the defiant to plow through everything and have uber plot armor.
I hope other members will consider and support my thoughts on this, and not run amok by picking apart every little detail and instance.

I'm not really au fait with balancing at large. I would say though that altering how often torpedoes fire compared to phaser pulses probably would affect balance since the game looks at it from the perspective of the weapon type rather than it just being a different visual effect. I think, anyway.
I agree entirely with the comparison to the canon Defiant-class, since the FL OPS version is a torpedo flinger, which isn't accurate to it's on screen portrayal. The difficulty being that torps make it effective against larger ships and stations whereas the pulses would make it a more effective dog fighter. In the show it is obscenely effective in seemingly any and all combat roles and to translate that directly in the game would involve it being an uber vessel.

I've mentioned this in the past before - and I would venture a guess to say that the Fed Redoes might be a good time for the Defiant to get we fanboy's "feel"

You make a good point about the pulses and quantums. They are indeed more effective toward specific chassis sizes. I do feel that the defiant will still be effective since this change is meant to affect her veteran status, not the standard unit. However I cannot recall at what rank she recieves her torpedoes.

Defiant gets Torpedoes at rank 4, 2 ranks below veteran.

Well, I must admit that I WANT the defiant to be a powerhouse. I dont know how to balance, but maybe the only balance the defiant needs arte their costs. No nerfing this ship please.
There are also many ways to counter the defiant. As borg, you can simply board it with boarding. As romulan, you fight it with the big D, if you are klingon, you fight it with Vor'cha, dominion can wield V13.
The defiant is in fact no uber-ship balance-wise. She is just good in all places and I like that.
