So, I was looking around at star trek online again and was thinking about the actually really cool looking gorn ship that they added called the Varanus, which I was wondering if anyone thought would be an interesting addition as a map object for fleetops. I thought that perhaps it could be a Klingon mixed tech unit, that is, if fleetops follows the idea that the Gorn were conquered by the Klingon Empire and intigrated into the KDF..

Not sure if it would be possible to acquire the model and texture from cyptic or not.. but, thought it would be a nice pleasant addition that would get the Gorn in game :P

Wow, for once STO has made a custom ship that DOESNT make me want to hurl. It actually looks pretty cool IMO.

Well, it helps that they didn't try and modify an existing design and instead made a completely new ship. I also have to agree, that's one cool design.

Yeah, I personally loved flying it around, even though it sucked in game. I couldn't really find any info on the Gorn in regards to the fleetops timeline, but loved this ship so much, and the species, that I thought I could present a possible way to sneak them in.

Would be awesome to see a veteran varanus :D

i can only see it on my fone's small screen, but i gotta say its the first sto ship that doesnt offend me. It isnt fantastic, its a rather conservative design, but i have no objection to it.

I think that conservatism though fits well with the Gorn race in terms of ship design. Theyre built tough, and build things tough, reliable, with their excellent skills in starship engineering. If its a reliable design philosophy, why change it? It certainly seems more durable then any feddy ship I've ever seen :P

hm, im suprised ... a not ugly sto design. Nevah though that i would see something like that in my lifetime. Thank you.

now seriosly: looks very ok and it seems to be a quite compact design. This is a blessing and a curse in the same part. Its prolly more durable than any klingon ship but on the other hand prolly way slower in speed and turning.

I'm curious about where that design philosophy came from...

What about Gorn being avatar (alliance) option for Dominion?

If they have been conquered by the Klingons, how do you fit the Gorn in the Dominion?

Maybe a group escaped the defeat and set up shop elsewhere?

Perhaps they weren't conquered at all :-). Sorry, I should have mentioned it in the first post - this way it realy does not make any sense. I somewhat personaly don't like the idea of Gorn being defeated and then integrated into KDF - it does not strike me as a klingon thing to do. In my opinion they would simply enslave Gorn population and most certainly dismantled their fleet.
