I think it would be cool it after researching a ship should have to pefrome a additional task be for the up date apply's.
such as a new install menu comes up where you can selected up date you which to install in the selected ship/ships.
also up date will cost more resoroses to apply updates to selected ships.
The reason for this is to force users to spend more to get more leveling the playing field.
When a player becomes stronger then there opponent they usely have a good deal larger restore cash. if updates cost more then to have a bigger fleat you will have to spend more.
In my idea the addon's could also be sold if back if you run to low.
This would add a new layer of options for the game. If you are worded this is to complicated you will start the game with behaver that tells it to do this automatically will be on. customizations only is a option is you tern of the behaver that dose it automatically.
In star trek a ship has to return to a star base to reserve a update/refit.so what I am asking will mke the game closer to trek reality.

I wonted to make the game more than just building a ship and then send it to kill or be killed.
I would like to more customization. I wonted to make it so that you can customize your updates + making havening a big fleet more expensive. To customize ship would be purely a optional chose. to customize ships ads more options more strategy. Such as you could chose to have a large fleet of week ships or a small fleet of well armed ships.
To research up date the amount of the update would cost would be basted on how many ships you have or can be set to refits to be alplyed for cost letting you pick and could which update you need for the selected ship.

but, if you make big fleets more expensive, (i read it as big fleets=battleships and other heavy ships) people will go even further into swarms of little ships.
...so many k'tingas...so many....they were everywhere...

This would not affect the size this only effects the cost of the upgrades if you balance the properly the heaver ships will not become any less usefull.
