Unique ships

Idk if this would apply only to feds others as well

basically tho, the devs mentioned a while back about vetrans having different models,

so i thought every ship should be unique, so have maybye 4 models instead

a vetran model and 3 normal models

so lets use the intrepid for an example,

your construction model has a 33 percent chance of building any of the 3 models, and a 1% chance of building a vetran models however, this vetran model could have lower stats then a double gold vetran, but higher then that of a normal

the normal models would have differnet values withing set perameters

idk what real values are so these are just example

system (17-20)
defense (16-18)
offense (18-21)

and it would randomly chose which values to put in, so every ship would have a unique model, and value

or you could do it so the values werre random, but all had to add up to a certain number, so maybye all values for intrepid had to add up to 50, so like sys(15) def(15) off(20) they could all be random as long as they added up to one set number

I think there are plans to have different, random variations on the ships, but veterans are likely to remain the only rank-specific changes.

I think the idea of random stats would really hurt the unit line up - basically you'd be guessing at what units counter what - and with the large number of units made overall, those little differences could add up and do some damage  :sweatdrop:

Which is why visual changes are all that work, like some Excelsiors with dark blue markings and others with light blue markings like the Lakota.

I do believe it is possible and I have been working on this idea for my mod. I'm not sure if FO will ever use it but I think it would be cool.

Im not so much into random ships but i think that slight variation in damage and repair times would be nice

Can you imagine how bad that would be for Multiplayer though?  :pinch:

see i dont think it would be that bad,

as i said, if you make the stats all have to add up to somthing, so lets say intrepid has to equal 50,

and then stats were in a set range of

like def 15-17

sys 18-20

off 15-19

then you could have a def 16 off 14 sys 20

and other variatios, they would all be slight, but it might make each ship feel a little more special, maybe even have minor speed changes idk, but all ship are unique, so to me this makes sense

hmm ok i see rays point maybe that wouldnt be so bad but no more than one or two points variation.

@Dom i dont think it would be that big of a deal. It would be fairly limited if a ship does 20 damage with what i was thinking it would be able to do 22 points damage at the max and 18 min damage. So its not like sometimes it does double damage and sometimes it does half.

Hm, why would vessels, produced in large mass production progams, like the Starships seen in Star Trek, be unique? They will probably be all be built the same way. The thing that differs most is the crew, and their modifications they add on their journeys. And we already have that: The experience system discribes those differences. Thats why Officer Ranks can actually add new technologies to a ship (like modified torpedoes). I don't think we need a system like that for the regular factions
