Two things I would change

I have An Idea to help.Give the Avalon's fighters a nother mode of operations. If the Avalon was a ship on the sea  the Equivilent would be called a Air cap(Combat Air Patrol). Combat Air patrol  meaning the  fighters  would deploy Circle  of a certian distance in a Circle around the Carrier and Defend the fleet from attack. Say twice or three times the sensor range  of the Avilon's own sensors.By deploying the Fighters for the air cap  and 4 additional Ventures as a spotters to assist in locating cloaked ships. On the Gui add a "Air cap" gui botton.  Upon activation  the Avilon would deploy    as pairs  1 venture and 1 fighter  around  each the  4 compass points  around the  carrier in a rotational manner  with a deploy time of 6 seconda  per pair. When attacked  the "Normal" fighters could  be called  out of  the normal complement of fighters or bombers that the Avilon has  to assist in defending the carrier.  Fighters should be slaved to gether as a unit not as single ships. Don't know how hard to do but by slaving the fighters  to single solid  control unit, the wing could gain veteran status as a unit  gains experiance.By gaining  the 6th level the Fighter block gets a Boost  in the stats of the  fighter block  of 1 offense 2 defense points. Upon  disengaugement from battle all fighters Are  return to the carrier. damaged fighters are repaired , destroyed fighters are  replaced,but wuith a penatily  of 10% of the cost each time  the number of damaged fighters  climbs past 2. so if you lost 3 fighters  out of a block  you cost would  be the original cost  in Dilithiun /Tritanium + a Penatily cost of 10%  then  the additional 1 ship would be procured at the  penatly  cost. So if the fighters were 250 Dil/433 Tri Ea for the "Original"  the  first two would be at that cost plus the penatly  cost of 10%. the  third ship would be at the penalty cost as well the fourth . The 5th ship would be at the penatly cost + the Additional 10% penatly cost while deployed.However  you could Repair recrew at A yard and the Cost  for replacements(fighters/Bombers)  would be  reset to the standard costs.

Surely it can't be too hard coding-wise to have the fighters guard the avalon when they spawn instead of this static circling. Is there any variable that can be applied to the avalon to make them circle it like a station?

I reckon that the guard function could be used to create a whole new weapon that lets you create proper fleets or attack wings...

But as it is, that sounds like a great idea Mayhem. Who says they need to circle it though? It would be fine, better even, if they stuck in a close group about it.
You could have it so that they were affected by the Avalon's alert status, too, then only have "deploy/return fighters" buttons. It doesn't matter so much if you can't tell them what to attack...
And there, then you would have a completely new weapon. In fact, a variant of my first idea above! :woot:
