Turret idea

Currently turrets are built one at the time. My idea is that instead of 1 turret, constructor builds 4 turrets when build turret is selected. The turrets would be placed on two levels (up and down), two in each level. Of course those turrets would need to be more expensive than the regular ones. Each turret would be separate unit that can be targeted and destroyed. This kind of defensive perimeter would suit some races very nicely.
The placement of this kind of "structure" would need to be a little bit different to current system, as the direction of the turret rows varies in different situation, but rotating stations is already planned for future release (Station rotation).

i guess its possible by using the replace weapon feature (build all 4 as one station and then use the auto replace command to replace the all in one version with 4 individual turrets

Why not use the same method as the Klingon Field Yard? Build 1, then add more later.

What would be the difference, then it would be almost as same if you would build one at time.

For easy multiple Turrets construction why not build a "HVY' turret station. Why not use a style of turret station from SCF III . Mod the station when first upgraded to have instead of two wings that has weaponds , add a nother set of wings at 90 degrees across from the first set on the same plane as the first set. Or on the lower plane of at 180 degrees from the ones the station upper level. Basically simmiular to the station type I suggested a while back before the current turret constuction system came in to use. Sorry not a modeler but I figure should not be too hard to make. Basically one builds the "base" turret" You would get the Station with a starter Phaser turret platform and then you upgrade the weaponds to what type you want like the fed turret system. Here is a jpg of what I am talking about as a starting point "base " station from SFCIII. The first jpg shows a side veiw of what the type of station looks like. The second jpg shows a top veiw of the unmodded Station from SFC3. The third shows the (crudely drawn )position of the extra wings that I was trying to show. Your base station would be with no wings. then upgraded to have a set of wings (like the Klingon yards) and then upgraded to get a nother set.

Pity that turrets are very race-specific, they are quite balanced as they are, and that the Federation doesn't need any more turret firepower.
So, no.
We don't need Federation players turtling their bases so they can spam Sabers at their leisure.
Unless you are willing to allow to remove the limit on the Domnion Perimeter Defenses, and design a similar structure for all other races. Balance, my friend.

Well, couldn't we possibly make the turrrets look a bit cooler?
We could have the Fed turret be spinning with a little tilt. And maybe give the Borg turret a full spin thing (spinning horrizontally and vertically at the same time). We could have the Klingon turret do this thing where it only turns if it is attacking.

I'm in favor of cosmetic changes to some turrets.
I might like making the Klingon turret fit in a 2X2 square.
I would love a "snap to grid" option toggle for when building multple turrets. I spend considerable time zooming in and checking the turret deployment place before clicking, to make sure it won't take more squares than needed.

I don't know, I would like to see more balance on the turtle side, as it is right now, this game is very much Ship heavy in terms of gameplay, I think there could be some work towards making the ability to turtle more reasonable, As it stands, the only ones who can are the Feds with the Q-Torp-Turrets, because they actually are at range with the type of ships designed to take out bases.

Nah, just piling lots of turrets in the most probable way of an enemy fleet and around a base so the base cannot be attacked easily, as in playing the turtle.
Though I'm a fan of turtling myself, there are maps that favor such tactics, and others that don't. So avoid playing in big maps with lots of space, and you will greatly reduce engagement ranges to those of your turrets.

I don't know, I think supreme commander handled it pretty well giving out a race that's focus was on turtle tactics rathter than attacking outright. and dont' worryDominus_Noctis wrote:....which makes turret walking inevitable
