Tractor beams and, or, Trading Stations?

Personally, I want both. I miss Trading with my buddies and Towing ships back to base. What do YOU think? Please post and vote.

I like them both. I think we should put tractor beams on scouts or mining ships.. and we could have trading statons be used for gathering supply by trading with feringi ships *like stock* and trading with buddies.

I vote only tractor beams. I never used trading stations and they seemed like one of the pointless features of A2.

I used the trading station all the time, but only one feature of it. Swapping excess Dilithium for more Metal, or Latinum for more Metal, or once in a blue moon, Metal for Dilithium.

Yeeaaaaaaaaaaaa traktor beems are great.
think about this: a galaxy-class ship holds a klingon b'rel and beem troops on it .... and the klingons cannot escape ...

i never used the trading station very effectivly, however i support investigation into this,
as for tractor beams, it could add a unique element to the game, if you could tractor a few of the ships escaping and shoot them while there being tractored

I've never liked a separate trading station. How about a setting, where your ships automatically trade with your allies. Your supply count could go up by say 10 ever time a transport unloads into your starbase. It would bring a whole new meaning to "extend supply routs" 
I also think there should be whole another level to ship explosions. It should be instead of exploding it should just completely lose parts of the ship, making it less and less capable, and or savalagable. It should also mean that a salvaged ship can not regain a completely destroyed system, accept by its original race. This would all give more use for tractor beams.

Good ideas i love the idea of trading ships going between your starbases and the tractor beams could be used in towing damaged ships and holding them in place. In The star trek universe almost everyship has a tractor beam and ships leaving reckage behind after they explode is cool to.

Now, i wouldnt be opposed to trading if it was part of the starbase. It would be nice too if that was the main way you got supplies! however that raises the question: if you're in an FFA, how would you get supply?

you would still have to buy it same as alwayse. It would make it better for the team mate to keep the other alive, and don't forget NPC trading ships, like ferengi and others. For that matter, you could trade between your own star bases. so build more than one to get more supply.

What do you say about this idea:
If a ship is involved in a battle and this ship get worsted, then sometimes it explode or it is defeated without destruction but all systems are destroyed. In this case you can recover it with an other ship by using the traktorbeam.
Then you can take the beated ship to a shipyard or a starbase an let it disassemble. Depending on the ship-class you will get a specific number of resouces.

I always liked Trading, it always felt like a life-line between my base and my allies. Not even the Ferengi are dumb enough to try and trade with the Borg...

Oh damn... Whether or not it's the same as what I've quoted, Starbases should definitely also act as docks for trade ships. Combined with making them more "territory-holding" (how I think they should be), there's a whole new element of strategy in protecting supply ships (or even convoys!) ferrying goods to outlying bases!
[spoiler]Here's how I see it:
You have your large, "main" starbase given to you at the beginning. It is unlikely that several such starbases would be constructed in any one sector, but there is definitely a need for smaller structures that can act as a base to enable the holding of a particular area.
However, the outlying bases need some kind of link with the main starbase (which is far out of transporter range) and this is accomplished via what used to be "trading ships".
I'm not sure how they could be made essential though (ie what resource they provide). Or whether they should be automatically built, with the "extend supply routes"-type function giving some kind of range or capacity increase.

I think it was great when tractor beams were only fitted to construction ships, regardless of how cannon.
But with those ship's new-found importance (mixed tech), they might be too valuable for the job... So we need a different class to attach it to that is common to all the races.
Battleships?
