Another idea from the newbie, for reasons of abridgement in a new thread:
On maps you could find some wrecks, old stations, artifacts whatever that add experience to your ships. Experience should be raised too.
For example:
- The Fed finds an old Wreck of the USS Constelation. All Ships in the Group (or just one?) do get an greatly higher experience and some special abillities... FE the TNG episode where the enterprise finds half of a former cloaked ship stuck in an astroid? Let's do something like "investigate this" which takes some time (reduces with ships researching) but grants the units more experience. Coould/Should be race-designated (dominion could find a founder baby, romulan some old vulcan artifact, klingons the tomb of a great warrior).
Similar idea maybe with finding wrecks and repairing them, which increases moral of the troops (more attack skill resulting...).

I remember mentioning wrecks before, though I only suggested having them as mineable.

I think it would give the game another charm, if you have to build more experienced units to stand a chance, because later on the games soon get boring if you play versus players which - like me - build ships in throngs to start a attack. Maybe heros ships could be that stronger, so you really get an effort. Would increase the interesting time of the game.

You mean like if your playing as Starfleet, you could get the Enterprise-E with Picard at the captain's chair of the ship, and if your Borg:borg: you could get the Borg Queen's Diamond? You know, that kind of thing.

No not exactly. I thought about finding old ships or artifacts (knwon from the series...) could give your ships an extra boost of power. Maybe special map objects.

Borg and Noxter would strip them for resources. Actually, any of the races but the Federation would probably do the same thing.

roms would look for tech like the feds. but would also try to see whether the wreckage could reveal something that could be of tactical or strategic vlaue in their quest for galactic dominance.

I also love the idae, that you can see whatever the ship you captured has seen...

yup. cool idea. Just not all of what the ship has seen... say a random 10% or 25% of it. After all the ship is a wreck - not all logistical info willbe retrievable.
also - all races should not get the same advantage from looking at a wreck.
i.e Roms could get line of sight
klings weapon tech
etc
or we could implement it where the benefit achieved is a relation between the finding race and the wreckage's race. meaning feds find klings and get say armour.
feds find roms and get say cloaking
roms find klings and get better weapons
roms find feds and get line of sight
etc
stuff like that

But it isnt mixed tech, it was more to do with a find of a derelict or wreck.
We could even have it random and not necessarily fixed, but we need to be clear that these are finds of derelicts of certain races by certain races - all coming from an existing tech tree.
What benefit is gained when, as a means of acquiring something from a derelict, would be more interesting if it were dynamic. How we get it dynamic would be interesting to discuss

But yeah - there would certainly be a close association with mixed tech, since the conceptualization of mixed tech is based on the acquisition of an opponent's ship (in ths case a construction ship), where as we were discussing the acquisition or study of part of a ship (in this case a wreckage stemming from a tech tree)
So the implementation would be similar -plus the devs would find it easier to use the existing code and tweak it, instead of inventing new code.
This would also improve our chances of them agreeing - not to mention getting it sooner than later

How do you imagine "dynamic"?serpicus wrote:would be more interesting if it were dynamic.

or maybye you could have to build a special station, that would allow random warpin of random ships at random intervals, to be like what in the show would be ships comming to help, if you guys get what im saying
