The Borg's Research

instead of researching techs the borg's tech should come from assimilation (see Voyager, season 3, #168: Scorpion part 1) a way to use this fact is the special weapon/upgrades instead of using research pods should use assimilated ships this would add even more realism to this great Total Conversion

But then they wouldnt have tech of their own, they would simply be a mix of other races ships and that would suck ass

it could be combined with own technology... like shield remodulation or more effective firepower, cuttin beams etc.

Yes but then they would need their own research stations too

I might be wrong but that would be like that assimilation station in A2 then where u could put 5(something like that) special weapons on it and then fit them into a cube.

I actually didnt like that idea :S

my idea was similar to that assi-station... but combined.. the research pods would be only possible to build when u assimilate or conquer a ship/station or gettin a weapon.

or if u assimilate a ship, a research button on a station, that improves the shields n weapons in a percentage in relation to the power of the assimilated or conquered ship. u know. that would be like an experience level. but it would be borg-ish

it's a great idea inspite what barone said, that it would simply be a mix of other races, but the borg are a mix, they don't research, they assimilate, but i would restrict that, special weapon research would still be possible, while for shields,engine,weapon and other upgrades you would have to assimilate ships that are already upgraded

Borg have to have their own ships buildable only, no assimilated whatevers.

Secondly, just leave them as they are, it would take too long to make them a special race that can use tech from other races. More work on top of making this mod.

Perhaps it could be considered for v4 when i think the Borg are getting redun arnt they?

Well the Borg already are a mix of tons of different technology, but they get this tech by assimilating whole races and maybe some really special ships.
So if they assimilate 1 ship they dont change their whole ship designes and also I think the borg are far advanced to all tech alpha races can "offer" them
Except maybe they can learn some things by assimilating the Dominion


So to sum up: Leave them as they are, except make cubes stronger

yea, the borg assimilated whole planets n species to advance n perfect their own thechnology, _but_ they use them as resources. they need to assimilate ppl to get drones, they need to collect ships or moons n stuff to build their own ships, and they´r learnin new technologies in contacts with new species n through assimilation aswell. and when they get redone for version4 i think it should be all based around that point if u throw them in the game. thats what i missed in sfc3 n armada1&2 for the most.
but i liked the idea behind the recycle-center n the techassimilator beam.

I ment that the borg would get their own tech for assiniating other races' ships for example if they assimialted a certaint fed ship say a soverign then all their sheilds would improve, if they assimilated another ship say the kingon ship that emits the ion storm then their cubes should get an ion beam special weapon

This is definatly possible, in fact infact I have even implinented it onto an unmoded armada 2

That I like, I misunderstood u b4. I though they would assimilate ships and then they would be able to build them or something
