Texture resolution

Is it possible that the lower resolution textures (federation_galaxy_1, federation_galaxy_2, etc) could be optional installs? Having to re-delete them after every patch update can be slow.

these low res textures are not there (only) for performance reasons but for sharper looking textures when viewing ships from distance. if you look at a vessel close up, you again have the high res textures visible. so i'd not recommend to delete them.

Look at the vessel up close and the high res are only visable if you see them from a certain angle. They still show up as lower res in the 3D view.

yea, parts of the vessel closer to the view get the high res textures while lower res textures are distant from the view. you shouldn't notice the transition much. is it a special ship you are talking about, do you have a screenshot? it is possible to increase the distance before the next mipmap level is chosen.

Is there a way to just have...maximum texture always? on all ships?

displaying the highres texture always will get you unwanted texture noise, exspecially while zoomed out
