Am I right in assuming that when the Cardassians are added as NPC's, that there mining facilities will resemble that of Terok Nor?

Correct, except the Nor-type is closer to a Starbase. Terok Nor was more of a multi-tasking Starbase.

The Nor Class Stations were ... what exactly?  Was DS9 supposed to be an abandoned mining station or a watch-post?  What was it's original purpose as a Cardassian station?

Starbase and Headquaters for the occupation of Bajor for Terok Nor, Research station for Empok Nor (from what little we've seen).

They are like stationary Cardassisan Galaxy Class; multi-purpose.

yes terok nor was used for administration and for mining, and for defense in a minor role.

empok nor was probably used for mining and research.

I'm sorry if I'm remembering wrong, but Empok Nor seemed to be placed in a nebula or something... I'm open for corrections   :sweatdrop:

it was in the Trivas system, it wasnt established where in the system, although we can presume it was orbiting something of use. an inhabitable planet or a moon with resources. i would presume a planet that was a formed cardy colony as the station had a large compliment.

EDIT: Image

from this image we see the star Trivas (or one of the stars in the system) in the background and some blue gas.

Spot the planet... We know nothing about Empok Nor other than it hosted an experiment-gone-wrong and was superficially identical to Terok Nor.

Thanks for illustrating, it's just been some years I saw that episode and I wrongly remembered these blue spots as a kind of nebula :D

i'm unsure what u mean tyler. i'm gonna assume u mean that my assertion its orbiting a planet is false.

my assertion was that we can presume (by we i mean I :P) that it was orbiting something of use

not necessarily a planet, but most likely a planet. why would they leave it out in space. its design was identical to terok nor means it most likely had ore processing capabilities. maybe they were mining an asteroid, and the images arent proof of anything, maybe the planet was behind the camera, or behind the blue gas. or empok nor had left orbit due to tachyons or something. we dont know anything more than that it was in the trivas system. if we assume that it being nearly identical to terok nor means it has a similar purpose, then it was most likely near to something it could mine.

Terok Nor wasn't just a mining station, it was mostly a HQ for the occupation. Processing ore was only 1 side-use. All we know of the similarities is that it is superficially identical, nothing about the tech it has inside. It was used as a base for an experiment, and Research stations (which it seemed to have been used as) are often built away from planets (like the Regula research station) for safety.

1 station capable of prcessing doesn't mean all are by default.

it was established in the dialogue (and reflected in memory alpha) that the stations are practically identical, parts are interchangable.

its not a stretch to think that it was built for mining as well.

i do not say that terok nor was only mining, it was part admin, part mining, and part defense. its established that bajor's resources were completely taken by the cardies, so terok nor must have been good at mining.

although i do concede that it possibly was used for something else.
