Is it possible to chose a single ship from your fleet and playing with her like in legacy/bridge commander.. it doesn't need to be complex like in these games.. just for fun, after all 3d view is available already it just need to follow an enemy ship, to control maneuvering and firing with keyboard and that's it.. it isn't easy as it sounds, is it?

well it would be fun, i really liked that feature in earth2160, but i doubt that the good old armada2 engine can do this

No, it's not possible. Someone found a bit of code, for a similar feature that MadDoc were considering, but it never got further than that, so there is no other code for it. It is impossible.
Besides, flying thes hips themselves is what you have Legacy for. Or SFC. Or Bridge Commander. Or StarFleet Academy. Or Klingon Academy. Let's not forget what the Armada game/engine is about.

i had the same idea and implemented some basic code to control a ship by keyboard. it is actually possible to implement this, including manual target selection and fire control. but i didn't want to invest more time into that as it would take a lot of time to make this work properly which is better spend on the important todos...

cool, maybe you can implement this when you're really bored
in v5 or v6

Is it possible to switch from one engine to another while still in-game?

Ooh, I stand corrected (said the man in the orthopaedic shoes). But I sense that basically, if it was implemented, what you would have would be Legacy, only less g... more bad.
Is it possible to switch between engines? Yeah. All you need is 2 CD/DVD drives, and enough processor power to run Armada and Bridge Commander at the same time, then Alt-Tab between them.
Of course, what you're doing in one will have no link on the other, hehe.

if implemented, it would be possible so that you could switch between the default (strategic) and manual command mode. but as previously mentioned, it wouldn't make much sense to implement such a mode. it could be something for a singleplayer campain where you temporarily have one hero ship under your command, but nothing useful for the skirmish modes.

Nah you dont need 2 CD drives just one. Actually you don't even need any if you know what you are doing

try pressing caps lock, when selected on a ship, it is close to what you are looking for, but it is more like the interface on STds9: Dominion wars. ugh *shivers*

we shouldnt lose sight of the fact that this is an RTs not an RPG. Even earth 2160 which developed its engine from scratch could not include both aspects.
Im curious as to what you expect from this game - an all in 1?
