Starbase weapons on Upgrade

Most of us have been playing FO for some time now, and I hope the others will agree.

When we upgrade a starbase we see an increase in offense and defense. however, that offense is seen as augmenting just the existing beams or torps on the sbase.

I find this to be a little dull.

If i do upgrade a sbase I would like to see the offense increase as it does now, but not by merely augmenting the additional beam.

Instead I would rather see additional torps or beams being added with each upgrade. Teh overall offense need not increase, and we may even consider dividing the augmentation between the new addons.

But my request deals more with the look of it. An upgraded Sbase should IMO look more like how DS9 looked when the klings or dom/card fleets engaged it - Firing with guns and torps blazing.
(maybe not as many of course, but a few additional effects would be eye candy).

I would even like to see an additional upgrade for systems on an Sbase. This would allow for an increase in the rate of fire by a %. this would make the effects and defenses of the sbase more alive than the current mundane Sbase weapons mechanics

The current augmentation leaves the visuals a bit wanting..

For Federation stations, how about 2 Pulse/Phaser weapons at the start, increase to 3 or 4 at Upgrade1 and add Torpedoes at Upgrade2.

Outpost with Pulse Phasers & Photon launchers, Spacedock with Beam Phasers & Quantum laucnhers.

To expand on your input -

the pulse phasers become difficult to discern. So for feds -
For fed sbases we see the original pulses. then IMHO we get to see 2 added beam phasers (additional beams allow us to see a new weapon coming on) on upgrade 2, and the next upgrade as u mentioned, a torp.


For the Borg. As they start with a torp, they get added beams as they upgrade to level 2, and then an additional torp (this one will have a different colour to the original starting one.

The klings start with a beam for taqroja, while martok starts with a torp. The kling sbase should get additional side Pulse disruptors with upgrade 2, and an additional plasma bolt like Gowron's vorcha from redemption for upgrade 3.

Dominion start with 2 beams, so on upgrade 1 they get additional pulse beams like the ones on the Stardestroyer looking troop ship (of course more powerful), and on upgrade 3 they get a tetrion torp looking torp.

Romulans start with 3 pulses. On upgrade 2 they get an additional disruptor beam. On upgrade 3 they get an additional torp.

personally i'd like them to more customizable over all... so you get so many upgrade pods... and in them pods you could choose if you want it to be a defensive or offensive station, with the odd one giving additional access to say one special wepaon depending on choices... i'd also like it so when the upgrade is in progress you actually see the new station taking hold rather than an instant swap...

i reckon their new code to make the borg ships could be used for this :)

I like that idea, also i would like to see that stations get fighters (also possibly gain rank but not necessary)

i could actually do this but not the different looking station part as i havent modelled in eyars and havent converted since armada 1 originally came out :(

Using the borg node system for starbases would be awesome.
If you have played Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment, you can see how awesome upgradeable stations can be. I support this idea 100%!  :thumbsup:

At the very least, new weapons added to the current station upgrades would help us to tell just how dangerous our opponent's base is. Right now you can't tell the difference visually, which is important when making quick decisions.

That would be really good although it seems like Doca Cola said that they were going redo the stations. however a kind of customizable station would be really cool. Also is there any reason why the stations dont really have a special weapon cuz i think that would be cool as well.

Im fairly new to Fleet Ops but the only thing I dont like are the stations....

I really like the idea of having a more modular syatem for upgrading stations as like was mentioned above using a borg like modular sytem. Not only does upgrading give increased stats but also being able to add pulse weapons or beams or torpedos would make the stations more realistic I think. Just as DS9 had a variety of weapons you actually got to see the weapons as well. Also I think it be a nice touch if stations could target mutiple vesels simutaneously just like borg vesels with modules.

Thats just my 2 cents on the subject.

I love your ideas. It would be cool to have it where you upgrade your starbase and it gets the normal bonus plus another weapon or too to make it feel like it has been  upgraded.

coolio. one question tho:

that meaning - added weapons based on upgrade as stated or Red's idea of borg style starbase customization?
