Starbase idea

Currently the starbase has 4 upgrades (2 off 2 def). the tavara has an addional upgrade for sys, the dom perimeter has the AT charges upgrade
i was thinking of a change in the system for starbase upgrading.
here's what it looks like:
each starbase gets 4 upgrade slots, allowing them to perform 4 upgrades max, like now. i was thinking of adding an additional upgrade for starbases giving them system upgrades for cloak detect.
so a fed starbase would get 2 off upgrades 2 def upgrades 2 sys upgrades, but only be allowed to choose 4 maximum. the first sys upgrade might give it a small cloak detect suite to stop scouts in bases being really easy. the scout could move further away though if microd properly. the second upgrade would improve that cloak detect to prevent most scouts in bases. so building 2 sys upgrades would take up 2 slots. so you would have to choose your other upgrades carefully.
or
the feds only get 1 level of sys, but 3 defence upgrades, as they are defence oriented. so fed bases would have 2 off 3 def 1 sys
the klings could have 3 off 2 def 1 sys. as they are offense oriented and perhaps not the best at cloak detecting
the borg & romulans could have 2 off 2 def 2 sys
the dominion could get 2 off 2 def 2 sys and 1 AT but still be capped to 4 upgrades. or maybe the dominion as masters of cloak detect could get 2 off 1 def 3 sys 1 AT as they may not be bothered with too much def, look at the bug lol.
thats just a general idea of how it could go. it would at least offer some cloak detect for the starbase.

i think he was referring to the tendancy to only built freighters from starbases. other than freighters you wont do much at the SB. unless you're about to die and u upgrade, but by then its probably over.

Well I had long ago proposed making either Starbases or "Outposts" (a whole new station) be outfitted with special upgrades kind of like this and like the Tavara's System Upgrade that decreases the cloak time.
I had suggested a handful of Runabouts from the Fed Starbase that behaved like fighters but were really to just greatly increase the line of sight for the Starbase.

i liked your runabout idea boggz, it might come one day as the runabout model was made. it could be a sensor upgrade for feds as they have good sensors.

I would like to see an option to customise what weapons the starbases have, instead of just upgrading defense and offense.
Example - I scout and find im playing against a Borg player, instead of the starbase having phasers I could purchase for extra torpedos etc.
