I had the idea to add a special abylity to the repairships of all races.

The ship will tow allied ships without funktional engienes to the next friendly repair dock.

Would you like? ;)

In other words, a Tractor beam? The Constructor has one, though a few more in the military section of the fleet I wouldn't mind. It wouldn't serve much use on a repair ship though, considering their primary weapon repairs allies.

Hmm, repair-ships dont have weapons and rely on the ability to flee or be backed up with the own fleet. The tractor-beam could be something defensive-like-thing, like the defiant used against a Vor'cha in a DS9 episode. Auto-lock the tractor beam against an enemy target and its weapons will miss with a higher chance against the repair ship (but not against others)

I am always in favour of more tractor beams, but I think it would be cool to limit them to slow moving/bigger ships. Many times I've had a ship lose engines in a battle and wished I could drag it along with the rest of my fleet.

I would say, that all support vessels get a tractor-beam.
And I would prefer to have a "Tow-to-Dock" button than, too...

There is. It's called "repair"

maybe battleships could get tractors which only work on ships with engines down, just like the constructor tractor. since all races get this, it is easier to balance.

"Repair" means the vessel that is towing the other one, I had used that to tow a ship with a construction-ship to my dock, but the ship without functional engienes was drifting away as the construction-ship was arrived at the dock.

It's already possible to get a ship with dead engines into the dock with a regular tractor, it just has to be close enoigh and positioned properly before you tell it to repair.

I had it ordered to be repaired, but it was drifting through the yard... Oo
But that was before 3.1.5 - I never had a situation like that since than...
