At this time there are a lot of threads dealing with the sov. The Sov is perfect as far as durability goes, but there is no consensus on what the offense should be.
Most arguments tend to use the Negh as a comparison for some reason and I do not fully agree with the comparison.
However, when dealing with a ship that is supposed to be in Geordi Laforge's words the most advanced ship in the fed fleet, an offense of 36 at start which is less than even a Vorcha (which is from the Galaxy's generation) is a little insulting to the Sovvie.
Fed balance is fine as is, and a few additional points on the sovvie to give its offense a more battleship oriented status would certainly be fitting.
The only question is how much if at all.
Another alternative is to have all fed ships start out with the current stats, but like the sabre upgrade in stats quicker and more effectively than the other races. So while a sovvie or an akira start with abysmal 36 and 22 offense, as they rank up they can touch 46-50 at doubel gold for the Sov, and 38 for the akira double gold.. not necessarily those exact numbers, but you get the picture.
I prefer this latter option the most as it retains the starting values inherent to a fed design, and then allows for those exact modifications that we see Mr Scott making to the Ent A, or O'Brien making to the Sao Paolo, or Laforge making to the ent D to bring those babies into the firepower packing fed muscle we see on the shows - emphasizing once more Fed technical skills as the crew breaks the ship in.
Please vote and help resolve this repetitive issue once and for all.
thanks in advance for your participation.

I personally say our Sovvie-girl is fine and dandy. Sure, she's not the OMGWTFGODOFWAR ship...but she's tough, she hits fairly hard, sprays torps like it's going out of style, and is both tough enough and fast enough to retreat for repairs the majority of the time.
I frequently base my analysis of a non-borg ship off how hard it is to get them double-gold against a medium AI when flying in trios. Sovvie is one of the easiest ships to do this with.

When i first saw this thread, i thought "oh no, not another thread-argument about the sovereign...", then after reading your post, i agree with your suggestion. It would be nicer to see a bigger veteran bonus for ship in the fed!

I definatly agree with the last one. Rapid advancement is what Starfleet is known for.

Why wont you all just leave the Sovie alone?
So many threads about this vessle and none about how quickly the NeghVar dies in battle or that NeghVar is only short range...
With that out of the way, I think its fine as it is BUT I wouldnt be against the ship getting bigger offence bonuses (but then decreased defence as well)

The Sovereign probably just has the most vocal fans.

Some of us would like to see the Cube do to fleets what the Cube did at Wolf 359, but we wouldn't be very popular for suggesting it. I'd even be fine with that cube costing 20k di, 15k tri, so long as I got to cackle madly as I watched that battle take place.
And this time, without Picard to muck things up.

I think the Sovereign should be unique the way she fires quantum torpedos. Now three torpedos are fired, it would look much better when she does like in First Contact. Five torpedos with very low reload time between them would be cool. Or if its possible a random amount of torpedos between two and six.
Also i must say the Neghvar is too weak in my opinion. Have you ever thought of increased weapons range as a promotion reward for more ships than Excelsior Class?

5? Is that attacking the Sphere or Phoenix? Because it only fired 4 at the Sphere.

She fired 2 Photon's as she entered, and 3 Quantum's during the barrage. Strange, more power was used against the Sphere than the Cube...
I'm assuming about the Photon's, since she entered about a second after them from the exact same direction.
