some ideas for fleetops!

hi guys, id like to throw some ideas around. let me know what u think and perhaps if there is enough support the devs might implement it.

1) allow specific abilities to be set to low/high/medium weapon autonomy. eg: the Remore has 3 special weapon abilities Precise Volley,Vector Calculation,Point Defense. by being able to allow specific abilities to be set to low/high/medium weapon autonomy, i can then go and set Point Defense to high weapon autonomy, Precise Volley to medium weapon autonomy and Vector Calculation to low. This way i can i can tune a fleet for less micro managing etc.

2) a 4th resource. yea i know what you thinking we already have enough resources. but i was thinking that having a 4th one that is very valuable could add an interesting element to the game. like maybe the 4th resource could be used to research some powerful new technology, maybe used in constructing powerful new ships. and maybe even be traded for large quantities of di and tri. the way the resource could be harvested could be that the player must take control of a map object (maybe only 1 or 2 on a map) that gives a slow trickle. (this could also make certain map objects critical to control).

3) allow the player to build large stations like Empok Nor, that can be used as base defense (maybe the same as having 5 turrets) (yes i know this is not turret wars but im not finished yet), but also can be used as trading stations (ie: maybe the ferengi that usaully take uncrewed ships will come there to trade) also maybe it can used as a place to hire mercs (u pay 100 supply and u randomly get 3 klingon ships/ 3 of another race to fight for you(ps not player controlled)). it could maybe also be used for other things.

4) now this on a technical note. could the devs perhaps modify the mulitplayer over internet so as to allow ppl with ping times greater than 200ms to be able to to play over internet. coz atm only ppl in europe and and north America can really play online (coz thats where the most players are), but what about ppl like me in South africa and ppl in Australia etc that wana play with ppl in america and europe and we have ping times in like the 250ms/200ms range. I dont know if this is possible but iv seen ppl play WOW with ping time in the 200ms or more range and they where playing WOW relatively smoothly so maybe its possible with fleetops? doing this would also certainly increase the number of ppl found online.

1) sounds good, i think its been raised and praised before

2) dont like it at all, i dont like super important map resources.

3) no opinion.

4) does the game reject people with low pings? i thought if a person with slow internet was in the game then it just lagged.

in regards to ur response to 4) the best pings i have gotton have been around the 300ms area and i have not been able to connect to any game, it just give me some error the that host was lost or something like that

I would love to see no.1

Right now the norway tend to use plasma field all the time if the special weapon is automated.

That's an issue with your connection. Either you have your ports blocked so you can't connect to all the players in a game, or you have such a massive packet loss that it can't maintain a steady connection. Based on your location, I'd bet on the latter. Getting a faster connection might help, but with the information having to travel so far, I don't think it's a fixable issue.

well when i test my connection to places like usa i dont get any packet loss. for instance pinging "www.tomshardware.com" or "www.google.com" results in 0% packet loss. just my ping is horrible

Hey there, my first post here...

so here are my thoughts:

1) Good idea, but i think that might be very complicated to do. Would definitly add a nice twist though.


2-3) So you are propably talking about bringing back latinum. Might be fine in combination with bringing back the trading station. As it makes the game more complicated, it should be optional for every map though.

So my idea:
Combine your ideas: A Map-Object Station (with different models maybe, "empok nor" "k7" "fed trading station"...) with no shields, no defense and a small crew like 100. So it can easily be taken over. And it should have a lot of hull points. The player who own it gains a small amout of latinum brought by ferengi marauders every few minutes.
I totally love the mercenary-idea btw. So on the Station you can call for Non-Player-Race mercenaries (no klingons or similar). You get a Ferengi Marauder, a Cardassion ship or maybe Nausicaans? It could work like a warpin: 5 Minutes delay, plus a good cost of supply and maybe latinum if that can be made.

That would allow some very very interesting maps but not complicate the gameplay on the recent ones.

Your issue looks to be just pure distance without packet loss. All the information is getting there, it just can't do it quickly enough. Try pinging tunngle and see what you get, or check the other player's ping to you .

lolz i dont like to be friendly  >:D. actually i share my computer with another user and was on that username at that time.

but enough derailment. what about the other ideas guys? it doesnt have to been done exactly the way i had it. what modifications to my ideas would you suggest?

i like that modified idea dargor1. oh i love latinum, the my inner ferengi wants it back
