Slower Release or Incremental Patching

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

Question: Would it be a good idea for FO to be released with just the major improvements being done, and subsequent "details" being added in patches?

This is no way meant to dictate what must be done, I just wanted to see what people thought  :sweatdrop:

In my own opinion, I would rather see V3 launched with all the essential options (I'll leave better people to determine what is essential...), and then patched when more things are wanted by the developers and fans. I think this will of course mean that v3 will be released sooner, and perhaps give us a better feel for what is needed. Is this impractical? Is it harder to patch then to release as one package? Perhaps the Developers could commment as well  :woot:

i'd much rather like to understand how they do there list...

why is "updating maps to V3" a critical task compared to "Graphics Bug 1" which is urgent...

how does the maps not being updated even stop development, i some how don't think it does since we have seen plenty of screenshots with the old maps...

or the fact it has soo many models in there to be done before game development will continue... i'd say they stick way too much in critical tasks that should be in urgent tasks myself...

despite the fact i would like this mod released asap...i have to agree with Ewm on this one. This will be a truly great mod once it is released and when it is im sure you will say "wow I'm glad i waited for it"

I'd rather wait for it to be finished. The other options just seem impatient really.

Just for kicks: people did tell Leonardo to paint faster, what to paint, and when to paint it ... as well as Michelangelo and other artists/scultors/musicians... That is not the point though  ^-^ . More I was just wondering what people thought, not what should actually happen, as of course it is up to the Developers  :sweatdrop:
Likewise, as I posted, I also wanted to know whether releasing patches would actually be better and easier then a "full" release. At the moment my reasoning is that because of the unlimited amount of suggestions that can and will be brought up, a single "full" release will never happen, and I assume that the Developers know this as they have stated that several things are only planned for later versions. Consequently, I was wondering whether a set amount of goals should be made for V3, and the rest left for patches and later versions  :D

Edit: It is interesting to note that nobody has voted for releasing V3 after ALL fan ideas are implemented, but instead only after the current list is complete

I was looking at the task list and actually reading the tasks (normally I just glance at the number left to do), but some of them seem like not very critical items. I may be wrong on this, but updating a model might not be important for the next release. It might make more sense to just do bug fixes/essential things and then patch later stuff like fancier models.

personally for me FO has always been about improved gameplay and added features and less and less about Models... i mean look at the initial releases, the models wont the greatest but nobody cared and to be fair the models are only interesting for the first few times you play when your like "oh wow" and then you dont actually care, you just play...

for all i care they could use all the current models they have and i wouldn't give two toss, just like i dont give two toss about them making new updated ones... the most important things are features and the borg and from what i have read they already have enough features to keep me interested for ages so just finish it off, balance the stuff and do the models at a later date as a patch or something (and im only saying that because they have one modeller... Hmm, but every version of the mod is going to have new features. If they do what you suggest, no new models would EVER be made, because these guys are constantly thinking up new things to do.

I think the models are just as important a part of the mod as anything else. Without them it would be incomplete. Besides, the team chooses what they will do, we shouldn't be hassling them or pressuring them to change it, just so you can get to the extra features sooner.

I really wish you hadn't created this thread Dominus. =( I know you meant it to find out what people thought, but in the end people are going to try and say what the team "should" do, and this forum is already full of people doing that.

yep, Fleet Operations will be released once we are pleased with v3 :) we do not plan to make incremental patches cause they do never give you a pleasing game experience.
