Ship Speed indicator in Stats

Hi, I haven't been playing very long, just since awhile after 3.2.6 came out, but I think I noticed something that isn't in the game that might be useful.
Many ships move at different speeds, and yes there is a way to make them move together, but I feel like it would be helpful to know how fast a ship can go. So maybe there could be something in the ship description, where all the other stats are, that indicates the speed of the ship relative to all other ships, and the scale could be universal.
Very rough example: Speed is measured on a scale of say 1-10, 10 fastest and 1 slowest. So in the ship description for say a Saber it says "Speed:7". Then you have a Defiant and in the description it says "Speed:7". Then you know they are the same and could easily move together (not saying they are, just an example).
It could also help strategically, you would know relative to all ships in the game how quick your fleet is. You may want your fleet to be faster than your opponent's. A scale would make this easier than having to guess how they stack up. This could help when making decisions to group ships, too. You may want a quick force and it would be easy to say "I'll only put ships faster than 7 in this group."
It also would add to the realism I think. After all, anyone in command of a ship or a fleet would know how fast their ships could go, and if they didn't it would probably say on the helm haha. So just an idea. oh and I'd just like to add that Fleet Ops is awesome and is my favorite RTS so thank you to everyone involved with making it

hello,
they actually already have a speed indicator in the guide. it would be good to just add that onto the in game description rather than memorize it or have to refer to the guide mid game..
http://guide.fleetops.net/database
would be very handy in some cases

Oh yeah I never noticed that thank you. Yes that's what i was basically trying to say, that speed should be indicated in the game.

Yeah, hopefully as time goes on we will be less dependent on a website for mechanics information.

While not all stats and figures are intended to be displayed (this is an RTS after all, not an RPG), speed being shown on the engine subsystem is on our todo list.
Take a look at some of the most famous esport-level RTSs out there: Starcraft 1+2 for instance have no speed indicator, no range indicator (except for a few abilities), and no sight indicator. In Fleet Operations speed is more important than in Starcraft, but in general you should be easily able to 'feel' your way through each unit's speed without needing to know a specific value.

Oh cool. Yes totally true that you can get a feel for it, but sometimes I forget, especially if playing with factions I don't often use, glad to know it's in the works. Thanks a bunch for the answer and fleet ops in general

Yep, our aim is to keep the general tooltip as simple as possible showing the attributes as a sum-up. We try to include as much information in the detailed subsystem tooltips, like we do with weapons, their damage etc. I could see similar tooltips for engines with the movement speed

As dominus said, a display is planned to show the current maximum reachable speed of a vessel. This will also take engine speed influencing effects like gravity mines into account.
Due to a technical limitation it wasn't possible to show some ship specific info on tooltips just until recently, when this issue was solved for another feature.
