Hey all. I was just looking over the forum and Patch Progress, and I noticed the Sovvy Hero again.
And I just got an idea. (I am not sure what the devs have in store, but this is still an idea)
Certain ships in the game: Sovereign, D'Deridex, Negh'var, V-13 (and maybe the Cube when we have the Borg XP system).
These ships when they become a veteran, they then can still gain some more XP, and then when they have enough, they can become a 'Hero' ship. With only 1 Hero ships slot (so you can only have one
)
Or maybe this (because you may hit the cap and not be able to make one of these ships because vet cap is full): When one of these ships hits the level 5 officer rank, they can be promoted to either veteran (if the slots permit), or to Hero.
And whatever the Hero ship would be... I will leave that up to the devs
Opinions?

Veterans are generic heroes.

Yeah, but I mean something bigger than vets.
Something... SPECIAL!

EG: When you have the Hero sovvy, it has the voice of Picard

It would probaly have an array of kewl stuffz

yea, that's easily done for the sovereign. But we lack a lot of heros for all the other classes (not to speak of the other factions).
That's a lot of work, and the hero units couldn't be that much more powerful than veterans are at the moment. We do not like to have super-heroes like in some RTS. The veteran system is our solution for the topic

There is already an idea to put in heroes in a ship. Like the borg-queen or your "avatar". But this should come to a risk: If this ship gets destroyed, you migh lose all your avatar-abilities or more risk: auto-lose the game.
I think, it should always be balanced out with something. So if you have your hero-ship, it may work this way:
- Create a "hero" at your starbase for 1000 dil and 500 tri (or something like that)
- You can produce max. 1 or two heroes (depending on the avatar)
- This hero might give you a certain bonus for your ship, for the surrounding fleet or whatever (for example special energy regeneration even while cloaked for the BoP if you build General Chang for the klingons or a tachyon grid for your federation fleet if you build a science-hero and something like that)
- The hero will sit on the ship and learn on it - he/she cant change the ship, after the first transport out of the starbase. Lost is lost.
- IF the ship with the hero will increase in rankup, you may gain extra abilities for your ship or you fleet or you may even purchase those upgrades to balance it out, but only available through a hero
(For example the borg queen can activate something like "Synchronizing hive mind" in order to vastly increase the effectiveness of borg ships so that they share abilities like instant regeneration, better boarding, resistance against special weapons and so on
- IF the ship gets veteran, the ship will auto become you FLAGSHIP which will give all vessels nearby a bonus on something... like better shield regeneration, fleet-suppressive-fire or something like that
For the borg, this would be different - only the command cube can be the flagship for the borg, that MUST hold the borg queen in order to function as a flagship
You may build different types of heroes, like "science/data-hero" (Sensorbonus and such things), "weapon-hero" (damage-bonus, better hit-rate and so on)

I agree w/Tyler about Vets "ARE" the Hero's. On another note, I think if Hero's were incorporate it would be really harsh to lose the game due to a loss of the hero; as its not hard to all gun for that 'one' ship with a dozen ships, I don't think thats realistic for multi player games.
Tho then again a rip off system like WarIII could be used too. (A resurrection of sorts building for hero's') ADDED: Also Borg "Ranks" would be effective throughout the collective ya?

I dunno, LotR incorporated heros into the game nicely as mainly hard to kill buff bots.

and then you have the problem of having multiple players being the same race. What if you had two fed players who both got the enterprise? That just wouldn't be right.

@Adm.Zaxxon&Myles - I think Myles idea is best because of Zax's reasoning.
Ohwell. Back to the drawing board.

With the new voice engine would it be possible to have different voices for different vets??? It would be reallly cool.

its probably possible, just a lot of time consuming work for something that really doesnt improve gameplay that much. i mean it would improve the game, just a little, so a low low low priority.

One would get Riker the other LaForge and the last Picard.
Or SF should just clone Picard

No, no avatar should have Riker! He's dangerous enough to any ship he commands, imagine what would happen to a fleet under his command...
