If I remember correctly from the original version, there used to be options for attack patterns of the ships.

While this made no sense for the artillary ships that had to stay out of range of the turrets, they made much better looking ship to ship and ship to base battles.

Any chance of having default patterns for different types of ships?

They still got the standard patterns I believe. They might be making some new ones too.

I couldn't find them, and it seems to add to the cinematic feeling. Of course, they stink when going against turrets, because they put the ships in range.

I have never used the attack patterns and found them unesseary.

A "V" attack pattern would be very useful in my opinion. Comments?

(Where the broad top of the V is facing the enemy, and the point is farthest away, opposite of "wedge")

I think a backwards V would be more useful but thats just my opinion.

It has been a while since I have played the original, but I thought there were attack patterns (circle, cloverleaf), in addition to attack formations.

I really liled these in theory for two reasons. First, they looked great. It was fun to watch ships engaging each other in ways that looked more like the original material. Second, it introduced the idea of ship strategy, even though it never really materialized. At the very least you might choose between a straight on/destroy as fast as possible attack and a dodge and weave approach.

Having said all of that, the existance of turrets negates the usefulness/desirability of ship movement. When turrets exist, I want ships to stay exactly where I put them. The last thing I want is for, in a ship to ship battle, my ships to wander into the kill zone of a turret and get decimated.

Of course, maybe turrets should mostly artillary, being so much more powerful against large ships, or ships that don't attack dynamically, and again giving a bigger role to small attack ships, or even ships... but that's another thread.
