Ship In Distress

How about a "special encounter" like a civilian ship in distress? (you save it, capture it or something, you get extras (resources, research, special ability etc))

Or some other bonus ship or resource...

Civilian ships would really make the game more interesting, fuller.

Other non-playable race ships would be even better!
(Bajoran, Vulcan ships, transports etc.)
We need more than destruction, we need life ;)

What do you think?

i like it very much actually and it could be done like the ferengi ship only you could capture it, they could be like large trasport ships(bigger miners actually) that you could capture and use for mining and it would bring in something like 450 dil in one go, and/or civillian ships armed or not, that would have some kind of special ability you could use (producing supplies, giving crew/weapons/shield streinght and other specials).

Well, what about simply making your supply-routes "visible" by adding some freigther traffic or something like that?
You would have a constant flow of supplies as long as your transports are fine. If you don't take care of them and your opponent destroys them, you will run out of supplies.

I like Jarod's idea. But perhaps it should be an on/off-feature.

the problem would be that this would require tweaking the engine to do. Without the source code this is extreamly time consuming as you have to edit the exe with very limited tools.

Actually Ryan I dissagree, The A2 trading station can be used as it attracts the freighters, you just call them supply stations and move the supply button from the starbase to the supply station.

wrong, because you would have to edit the exe to allow the traders to provide you with anything other than latinium. Although to be honest I don't quite get what you mean. Feel free to prove that it can be done.

we planed special map events for v4 which could also include interacting with neutral factions in a way of peace, like trade for example. :)

Sorry Ryan my mistake I was assuming that the traders where more moddable I mod A1 rather than A2 at the moment. and that sounds good Optec I don't suppose that your gonna tell us any more?

And, for races that wouldn't or don't trade, like the Borg, you would want to destroy it. So, the trading races would want to get to it first to get a bonus, while the non-trading races would want to get to it first to destroy it.

:borg: The Borg could simply assimilate them if they had something being worth it. :assimilate:
So those "events" should bring some kind of bonus for every species with them.
Simply destroying them is too destructive imho.

I agree with the asimilation ideea. They assimilate the race and can use anything they can offer.
