I didn't know if u guys had anything like this, but I was wondering about ship classifications. You guys know how there are labels for the support ships? I forget their names, but they're the ones that get upgraded, I was wondering if you might add labels for the rest of the ships, too. Like, battleship, cruiser, light battlecruiser...stuff like that. That's pretty much my 2 cents. Oh ya, by the way, I'm am an avid fan, LOVING what u guys do. I can't describe to u the respect I have for the time u've had to put this mod into action. I think I'm going to throw u a party. Well... I suppose I couldn't throw u a party..but... I wish I could. So, nyways, thanks for all your guys' great work!
Oh ya, I also understand u guys don't want tons of things to add on top of what you're doing already, but seeing as everyone else is doing this, I thought I would too. Sry to add to yur workload if u do this...
See ya!

Welcome to ze forums! I totally agree with the ship classification thing, it'll make things really easy.
I am however, picky about the actual name of the ship classifications. Like, for example, the infamous names such as "light battleship". Okay, so, is it supposed to be stronger than the battlecruiser or what? I'd rather see a watered down, simplified version, something like
Battleship
Battlecruiser
Cruiser
Destroyer
Frigate
Scout
Support
Instead of putting all those obscure adjectives such as Heavy or Light or Uber.. Id rather see a much simpler list.

This sounds like a great idea for both Vanilla and Fleet ops. Probably would be a good modding tool. What are the class labels as is (not knowing anything about modding myself
)... How many is a good number to add (when does it become pointless in other words)?

I totally know what u mean, I never understood it with all those names in there. Just wondering, what's vanilla? I've been reading the forums a while, but I don't remember anything about vanilla...what is it?

It's this awful old flavor, which has just about been done to death: almost nobody wants it anymore because you can just spam just one type of warpable sprinkle and so everybody adds there own variations on it in the hopes to keep it going (works pretty well too!). Ya know, the charmada swirl, rasberry cylons, umm, Blueberry SG-1, and of course, the crowd favorite, peachoperations pr (pear release)!
Anywho, if you haven't guessed by now (which is likely, as my intelligence is dangerously low today
), Vanilia = Armada II sans anything special.

For game emchanics we do already have a few unit classes
destroyer, light cruiser, heavy cruiser, battle cruiser, battleship, dreadnought, support units
they are used for game mechanics. for example admiral mayson will feature a new special ability for the excelsior class in v3 which will deal increased damage to battleships.
Currently we do not plan to add these descriptions to the tool tips, cause they differ largely from race to race. a borg battleship is not really comparable to a federation one. the term "support ship" is added cause they are a unique gameplay element

In armada 2 they had ship that where for capering other units only. I kinda liked that fetcher tho the way they did it was not authentic with star trek.
If their was a way to have a new Ship classifications for cacheting units add I not sher what it would be throw war ship? you could use some thing like the old New Orleans for the feds. for the Klingon's a upgrade war bird. the Dom could use a upgraded bug ship. the Rom have so few ships that we know of it would be easy to make up a new one maybe a troupe ship.
What do you think?

Hmmm... the only problem I can see with this is that the crew requirement might need to be brought back to the table. It sounds like fun, but I would suggest doing it in a unique fashion for each race. For example, a support ship for the feds that has a complement of marines with a "lockdown" attack that disables some support systems for a short time on the enemy ship. Like you said, bugs for dominion that use a special polaron torpedo to render enemy ships shields useless for a time. The borg and romulans already have special systems of capturing (think tavara and holding beam)... but a troop ability for the shrike might be nice. For example, you could be given the option to refit it to hold a complement of marines instead of the tal shiar operative... Klingons might just be given higher crew attack for "big" ships perhaps.
Maybe... what does everyone else think?

In Star Trek wars marines and capturing don't play a really large role. Thats why we avoided this feature. And currently we do not plan to expand that any further.

"Prayer Mr. Saavik, the Klingons don't take prisoners".
And then they do in the next movie...

oh ya, to the fact where you said, about diff. species not having the same types of ships, good point. I just thought it would be handy to know what sort of ship i should or have been using. That's a good point. I retract my request. thnx for considering it, though.
