Hello Everyone,

This is my first post but I have been following this Mod for a long long time. and first of all I want to say great job to the fleetops team! if this was packaged and put in stores it would definately be worth buying at retail.

On to the good stuff... This may be a tired and old topic but I think I have a great suggestion and I offer up my thoughts on Ship and Station upgrades. For the purpose of this post I will concentrate on the federation for my examples.

1) Since the federation Main Starbase already has four pylons surrounding it, wouldn't it be logical that each one could be made to be a different modular defense or sensor array. For example, You could have a starbase customized as a listening post with 4 sensor platforms attached and they would work together to give better sensor/tachyon detection range. Or if you have a station in a hostile area each of the four pylons could be torpedo platforms to maximize firepower. Or for a good balance one of each (pulse phaser, phaser, torp. and sensor.) Im sure this is mentioned before but I think its implementation would be seamless especially for the feds. since the starbase already looks like it has four platforms extending from it and I have always wished that I could customize my starbases to suit different roles depending on where they are deployed in the battle zone to make them more useful.

2) I believe that since the timeline for FO is around the time of the dominion war obviously. I think some of the advancements from this era should be taken into consideration for the federation ships especially. For example.. Currently having a warp-in USS excelsior breaks my heart because I have to see her go down in flames within seconds of being deployed because she's over 50 year old starship going up against ships that it was never designed to face. Sure the klingons have old ships too but I doubt they have no refits.

So here is my suggestion...

Starfleet Command should have more than the ability to call in just standard warp-ins, if it had an ability like 'Up-armor package' or 'Up-weapons package.' (That would cost special points also) Then it would make these older ships (Nebula, Excelsior, Galaxy and Ambassador class) all more useful and more appropriate for the ERA when all these ships have received multiple refits.
So conceivably a player could create a Lakota type Excelsior with Quantum torpedoes and Oblative Armor. (I'm not suggesting a model change or a whole new starship just stat boosts to make warp in ships more useful.) The cost would be obvious... the more weapons and armor upgrades lessens the number of ships you can deploy because of the special point limitation. However, I would rather have one or two dominion war refits than any of the Regular warp-ins. The exception is the descent obviously... the option to call in the usual two descents or the regular (Un-modified) warp-ins should remain unchanged. I'm only offering this suggestion as I believe this would make Starfleet command and the warp-ins it provides more customizable and add a new depth to this aspect of federation gameplay.

The dev team is redoing the starbases for the next patch, making them more customizable.

One other note FO is set about 20 or 30 years after the dominion war just FYI

I currently like the way that the SF command works, except for i would like to see more ships able to warpin. Also about your ideas about thedominion war refits, I believe they describe what is going to happen with the veteran abilities

I agree regarding Starfleet command, I like the way it works too. Which is why i'm not wanting to change the way it works only the ships it offers.

I see the Akira will get a nice veteran ability but I think I am more worried about the older ships still being too weak.

I meant that i was ok with the strength of the ships you get from warpin. The excelsior works well IMO as part of quick raiding force of sabers and canaverals and other quick ships. Use it to attack your opponents mining stations. I have to agree that it is not a strong vessel but its free. So if you are worried about it being destroyed retreat from battle as it can outrun anything but the fastest destroyers.

Great Ideas.  First Welcome to the forums. Next I believe the Mod team said that FO was around 30 years after the dominion wars.  C, no wate...third the problem with your warpin suggestion is that it is, or was, supposed to be a distress call.  So I believe there should be a random number, race(any in the federation), ship and they should automatically warp to your battle and leave when it is over.  But still great Ideas, I love the Thoughts on the star bases.  The more customizable the better.  But maybe it should change with the avatars, like for Risner the starbase should get to choose between four sensors, and four phasers.  Mayson should get four torpedos or four pulse cannons.  All of these would be interchangeable, like two phasers and two sensors.  Lots of different possibility with that Idea.

Thanks Guys.

Looks like I need to re-think my tactics with the warp-in ships.
I guess I was just remembering the glory days of the excelsior class when it was a powerful battleship. Her age has since relegated her to a cruiser/support ship, but I guess it's better than not having it at all.

yes but it is too that heritage that the mk2 version pays homage and wow it is an awesome ship.

Certain Galaxy-class ships, such as the USS Venture, were refitted with additional phaser strips on the dorsal surfaces of their nacelles by 2372. (DS9: "The Way of the Warrior")  (from: Galaxy class - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki)

Is this what you're mentioning Zaxxon?

Wow, are you the tenth doctor?  :D

All great ideas. As was said before, with Federation "Refits" most of it fits with the veteran system, so Lakota-type Excelsiors and Venture-type Galaxys just fit with that.

I can't wait for the starbase increased customization, but I fear you guys are expecting a lot of charge here. As far as I know, they are just tweaking the upgrades a little, but I may be gladly mistaken.
